NCT DREAM flaunt their boundless confidence on their sixth mini album “Beat It Up”. As one of the leading forces of K-pop, producing numerous global hits and embarking on massive stadium tours, this release underscores that there is still so much more to come from this multi-million-selling group.
“Beat It Up” follows NCT DREAM’s full-length album “Go Back To The Future”, released earlier this summer. Where the last release explored the theme of ‘the direction of time’, this one delves into ‘the speed of time’, capturing the story of the seven members who have been running toward their dreams at their own pace since childhood.
The title track ‘Beat It Up’ is a powerful hip-hop song bristling with NCT DREAM’s signature intensified energy with punchy rap verses launched at breakneck speed about embracing your own journey and pushing past limitations.
They follow up the dynamic energy with the pop banger ‘Rush’ before switching gears on ‘Cold Coffee’ – an R&B-infused pop ballad about the lingering scent of love that remains unchanged over time.
There are two distinct unit tracks that further underline the group’s range. ‘Butterflies’, performed by RENJUN, HAECHAN and CHENLE, is a pop ballad showcasing the members’ pristine emotive vocal delivery. Asking, ‘Do I still give you butterflies?’, the confessional song expresses the longing to rekindle the same fluttering feelings as the first moment they met. On the flip side, the explosive ‘Tempo’ – fronted by MARK, JENO, JAEMIN and JISUNG – is inspired by 90s rap battle tracks. Co-written by GRAMMY-nominated British hitmaker MNEK (Zara Larsson, FLO), the song captures the group’s unstoppable drive and confident attitude.
The six-track collection closes with ‘TRICKY’, a hip-hop track that unravels the complicated emotions of wanting to break free from someone while still being irresistibly drawn to them. The track brings together the diverse vocal ranges and powerful rap prowess of NCT DREAM on one expressive banger.
Since debuting in 2016 as young teens, NCT DREAM has grown up in front of the world – with every release, solidifying their identity and unrivalled presence on the global stage. This year has seen NCT DREAM embark on new ventures both individually and as a group, showing their ongoing artistic growth. In between the release of their album “Go Back To The Future”, members MARK and HAECHAN launched their debut solo albums, respectively titled “The Firstfruit” and “TASTE”, while CHENLE released his debut Chinese EP “Lucid”. The powerhouse group is currently on their fourth world tour, “The Dream Show 4: Dream The Future”, which is making its way around Asia.
