“Nochebuena”: Las Martí Transform Immigrant Nostalgia into a New Global Christmas Anthem
Singer-songwriters Las Martí present “Nochebuena,” a new Christmas song that embraces those living far from home and transforms the immigrant experience into a universal message of hope, memory, and love. The song was born away from home—born in the silence of an early-morning highway, in the memory of a family table waiting, in the image of candles saved to see a grandmother again. It emerged from the same place where many immigrant stories begin: the journey between what was left behind and what is still dreamed of reclaiming.
“Nochebuena” is a classic and romantic vallenato, deeply rooted in Latin American tradition. The song draws inspiration from the paths traveled by millions of people who spend Christmas far from their homeland—driving through the night, holding onto small traditions, and dreaming of returning home, even if only for a moment, even if only through music.
With an honest and deeply human narrative, “Nochebuena” evokes the scents and sounds of December—traditional holiday flavors such as buñuelos, natilla, and cinnamon—and reminds listeners that Christmas does not belong to a specific country, but lives in the hearts of those who carry it with them. Its warm, nostalgic sound positions the song as a global Christmas anthem for the Latin diaspora.
“The song evokes the memory of a family table in our Colombian homeland, with our music, our scents, our traditions, celebrating Día de las Velitas together through our vallenato music. For us, having lived abroad for nearly 12 years, we always long to spend Christmas at home again, knowing that our hearts will remain there, in our Colombian land, forever,” Andrea shares.
“No matter how far away you are, coming back every December to the little house at Christmas—the house where the flowers sing—that is our mother’s home. It has always been our place of gathering for music, home, and joy, where the nights pass as we sing and write songs,” says Vanessa.
The song brings together sister songwriters Las Martí (Andrea and Vanessa Martí) alongside renowned musicians who have collaborated with iconic artists such as Binomio de Oro, Diomedez Díaz, Carlos Vives, and Patricia Teherán. The lineup includes Roberto Cuao on percussion, Edgar Gutiérrez “El Peke” on bass, legendary accordionist Jimmy Zambrano, Gabriel Cifuentes on guitar, and multi–Grammy Award–winning engineer Iker Ganstaminska.
“Latin celebrations hold a unique power: they bring us together, move us emotionally, and remind us of who we are, where we come from, and where we are going. Nochebuena was born as a tribute to that shared identity we carry with us, wherever we may be,” said Las Martí.
“Nochebuena” is a work that is not only heard—it is remembered, felt, and embraced. A song created to unite generations, borders, and hearts during the most meaningful season of the year.
