Oscar, Emmy, and Grammy Award winning artist, actor, author, producer and activist, Common has launched The Stardust Kids (@thestardustkidz) (SDK) initiative. Based in Los Angeles with a global reach, Stardust Kids is a platform for emerging artists and creative entrepreneurs of various disciplines to come together and develop their art and commerce. The initiative aims to foster collaborations, offer mentorship, and serve as an incubator for rising artists with promise. SDK serves as a platform for creatives to create compelling art that contributes to culture while also shaping the future.

The initiative consists of emerging creatives ready for the next step in their career. SDK aims to support and scale artists’ existing business by identifying immediate needs, goals, and supporting in their achievement.

When asked what inspired Common to create The Stardust Kids he said, “the raw talent and initiative these artists have shown is inspiring. I am so grateful to be at a place in my career where I have the opportunity to support and lift emerging talent up and be seen as a resource for their creative processes. It is a true full circle moment for me where I can actually be a part of someone else’s dream. It means a lot that I’m able to have the slightest hand in showcasing all the incredible things this next generation has to offer.”

SDK offers many resources, including job recruiting, branding, marketing, label services, creative partnerships, mentoring, public relations, industry connections, and more.

The executive leadership team for SDK includes Common (Founder and Creative Director), Nicole Hegeman (Executive Director), Aun Madison (Project Manager and Art Director), and Bryant Von Woodson II (Artist/Project Development and Strategic Planning).

The goal is to establish SDK in the art and entertainment industry as a hub of cultural influence and a talent source, serving artists of all disciplines, from musicians and fashion designers to writers and graphic artists.

SDK has an extensive calendar of events in the pipeline, including a live conversation series with industry experts and influencers titled “SDK Presents: From Here On,” a weekly live performance activation with DJ duo Madison Sqd on Twitch, and new music releases from artists Isaiah Sharkey, Life, Gilly, Shilpa Ananth, and DJ oz:ma.

Additionally, SDK has special collaborations happening this summer with two artists in the film and music genres. Popins, a Seattle startup and the leading producer of streaming volumetric video performances, has chosen to offer musician Alec Shaw a holographic performance of his original song “Nobody But You” as the world’s first AR music video that consumers can own. Limited editions of this entirely new art form will be offered as NFTs (non-fungible tokens) via online Rarible starting this Thursday. This collaboration is a leap forward in technology for artists across all fields and something you must see to believe. It represents the core of SDK’s vision of empowering fantastic young artists across an array of platforms to reach for their dreams.

Also, in a collaboration with Common’s production company, Stardust Films, SDK will be co-producing a short film by filmmaker Christian Nolan Jones titled “GLITTER AIN’T GOLD.” Scheduled to shoot this summer, it is the next film project by the rising star, whose recent short film, “BROWN WITH BLUE” won “Best Local Short” at the Atlanta Underground Film Festival and was exclusively premiered on Issa Rae’s platform “Short Film Sundays.”
