Songwriter Hillary Reynolds Steps Into Spotlight With Easy-Going And Honest Debut Solo Album, Changing Seasons

“I don’t want this album to change your life. I want it to be your companion through it,” says songwriter and recording artist Hillary Reynolds of her new album, Changing Seasons—out August 8th. And in a way, it’s been her companion as well. Completed throughout a monumental shift in her life, the Reynolds who began writing the songs of Changing Seasons more than five years ago is not the same Reynolds releasing them to the world in 2025. “It’s wild to think about how the album was written before I became a mother and then finished on the other side of that profound transformation,” Reynolds reflects. “I already felt like a different person on the other side of the pandemic, but motherhood also threw me for a loop.” It was such a change, in fact, that she wasn’t sure she’d ever complete Changing Seasons.

Gradually, Reynolds reintroduced herself to her career. Co-writing sessions for other artists came first—she’d already had songs recorded by Little Big Town and Dani Rose—and then performances. “Eventually,” Reynolds recalls, “there were moments onstage in the Summer of 2023 where I started to get really emotional.  There was such a strong resonance.” That was all the proof she needed that she was meant to see this album through. What started as an exploration of songs that felt too personal to pitch to other performers has become something Reynolds needed, and hopes others do, too. The eight songs on Changing Seasons are meant to be a soothing companion to morning routines—something to ease listeners into a new day, to ground you before the chaos sets in.

Reynolds released the first single from Changing Seasons, “Can’t Turn Off My Mind.” What began as a song about insomnia, “Can’t Turn Off My Mind” evolved into an earnest, easy-going journey through overanalyzing, indecision, and everything in between. “Sun’s coming up to shine / You’re still sleeping / I’ve been up all night / For no reason,” Reynolds sings softly in the song’s first verse, setting up her beautifully honest and frank refrain: “And I can’t turn off my mind.” “I wrote the first half of this song by myself and felt like it needed fresh energy,” Reynolds recalls. “So, I turned to my dear friend and fellow artist, Madison Malone, for a little nudge. Since finishing this song, Madison and I have both become mothers, and insomnia has become a familiar friend.”
