That Mexican OT Drops “Chopped Not Slopped” Version of ‘Lonestar Luchador’

That Mexican OT grew up steeped in the rich Houston rap scene, making music influenced by the region’s greats and the Tejano culture of his hometown of Bay City. OT embraces a longstanding Texas tradition, sharing Lonestar Luchador (Chopped Not Slopped), a chopped-n-screwed version of his Billboard 200-charting album.

Today, the Bay City native teams up with a Houston legend, DJ Lil Steve of The Chopstars, to release Lonestar Luchador (Chopped Not Slopped), a Chopped-N-Screwed version of his breakout album. Using the same technique perfected by the legendary DJ Screw, DJ Lil Steve molds OT’s clipped rhymes into languid, taffy-like shapes and chops the audio to highlight bars and create new grooves. The fast-talking hit “Johnny Dang” swangs like a low rider, while melodic highlights like “Breannan” and “Cowboy Killer” take on surreal dimensions, and the already-slow “OMG” grows even slower. Released in July, OT’s album Lonestar Luchador, acclaimed by Pitchfork (7.5) is home to the single “Johnny Dang” ft. This fall, That Mexican OT completed the “Lonestar Luchador Tour,” the Bay City native’s first-ever headlining tour. Commencing on September 10th in Denver, CO, the “Lonestar Luchador Tour” criss-crossed the country for 19 dates, stopping in New York (S.O.B.’s), Atlanta (Vinyl), and Los Angeles (The Echo) before concluding in Oakland on October 4th.
