That Mexican OT Drops “Chopped Not Slopped” Version of ‘Lonestar Luchador’
That Mexican OT grew up steeped in the rich Houston rap scene, making music influenced by the region’s greats and the Tejano culture of his hometown of Bay City. OT embraces a longstanding Texas tradition, sharing Lonestar Luchador (Chopped Not Slopped), a chopped-n-screwed version of his Billboard 200-charting album.
That Mexican OT has risen through the ranks of the Texas rap scene with raw rhyme skills and a healthy respect for his region’s rap tradition. Today, the Bay City native teams up with a Houston legend, DJ Lil Steve of The Chopstars, to release Lonestar Luchador (Chopped Not Slopped), a Chopped-N-Screwed version of his breakout album. Using the same technique perfected by the legendary DJ Screw, DJ Lil Steve molds OT’s clipped rhymes into languid, taffy-like shapes and chops the audio to highlight bars and create new grooves. The fast-talking hit “Johnny Dang” swangs like a low rider, while melodic highlights like “Breannan” and “Cowboy Killer” take on surreal dimensions, and the already-slow “OMG” grows even slower. Lonestar Luchador (Chopped Not Slopped) is available everywhere via Manifest/GoodTalk/Good Money Global.
Released in July, OT’s album Lonestar Luchador, acclaimed by Pitchfork (7.5) is home to the single “Johnny Dang” ft. Drodi & Paul Wall. which has generated over 90 million streams on YouTube and Spotify alone, plus additional highlights like the bi-lingual banger “Barrio” ft. Lefty SM, the melodic and guitar-inflected revenge anthem “Breannan,” and the villainesque stomper “Cowboy Killer.”
Lonestar Luchador made an immediate impact, reaching #1 on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart and peaking at #59on the Billboard 200. Featuring additional guest appearances from BigXThaPlug and Big Yavo, Lonestar Luchador is available everywhere via Manifest/GoodTalk/Good Money Global.
Lonestar Luchador capitalizes on the momentum generated by “Johnny Dang,” That Mexican OT’s breakout hit, released earlier this summer. First gathering heat as a snippet on TikTok and Instagram, the Paul Wall and Drodi-featuring song spent weeks in the top ten of Spotify’s U.S. Viral 50 chart, and spent 12 weekson theBillboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at #65, #14 on the Hot Rap Songs chart and #19 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.
This fall, That Mexican OT completed the “Lonestar Luchador Tour,” the Bay City native’s first-ever headlining tour. Commencing on September 10th in Denver, CO, the “Lonestar Luchador Tour” criss-crossed the country for 19 dates, stopping in New York (S.O.B.’s), Atlanta (Vinyl), and Los Angeles (The Echo) before concluding in Oakland on October 4th.
