LELO SHARES NEW VIDEO FOR “CALL IT” – OUT NOW
On the heels of last month’s critically-acclaimed debut album New Detroit (7.8 from Pitchfork), Detroit’s own Lelo has just shared a new video for the standout song “Call It”— out now via 10K Projects. Whilst minimalist in nature, the new video captures Lelo‘s magnetic confidence as he glides through the city on a midnight voyage –– backed by head-bopping production, the Detroit native’s masterful hook writing and sly wordplay are on full display. The recent release of New Detroit reimagines Detroit rap through Lelo‘s own unique lens, with the 15-track album effortlessly fusing the experimental production of 80s Detroit House music with the sensibilities of modern cloud rap, culminating in an unmistakable sound that feels both rooted and borderless. With fiercely regional sonics at its core, the album is fittingly named in honor of the New Detroit movement Lelo is proudly leading, and was met with critical acclaim from the likes of Pitchfork, The FADER and Hypebeast after being co-signed by XXL for The Break and Pigeons & Planes as a Best New Artist during his run of singles earlier this year. The release of the new “Call It” video precedes Lelo‘s forthcoming New Detroit Tour –– kicking off in Chicago on 9/8 before subsequent headlining performances in New York, Atlanta and his hometown of Detroit.
After turning heads in the Detroit regional scene with early singles like “Hughes” (2M+Streams) and “Daybreakers”, Lelo released his long-anticipated debut project Nightingale last spring. He followed it with a steady run of attention-grabbing releases, including “No contempt” (25M+Streams), “Limbless” (6M+ Streams), and “Yoppenheimer” (5M+Streams), as well as the four-track EP LifeAfterDogShit and his December EP When It’s Over. In the months since, he’s built even more momentum with singles like “Perfect Blue”, “2hollis”, the Tony Seltzer-produced “Pot Of Greed”, “Kudos”, and “On The Wall” (feat. Babyface Ray), as well as the Sade-sampling “Main Event”, which earned him a co-sign from EarlSweatshirt. He’s also earned nods from Pi’erre Bourne, LUCKI, and BrentFaiyaz, as well as TiaCorine and Danny Brown. Live, he’s played to a sold-out crowd at Bktherula, skaiwater, and Yhapojj‘s Detroit tour stops, performed with Che at Zicmade‘s NYFW after party earlier this year, performed his first sold-out headlining show in LA and is about to head out on his first four-stop headlining tour in support of his debut album New Detroit – out now.
