ALMOST MONDAY ENTER A NEW CHAPTER WITH HOPEFUL, HEARTFELT SINGLE “LEAVING IS EASY” OUT MARCH 6

San Diego indie-pop trio almost monday turn inward on their new song and accompanying video, “leaving is easy,” arriving March 6. The release marks a defining moment for the band, revealing a more intimate and emotionally vulnerable side of their sound.

Written early last year by almost monday (Dawson Daugherty, Cole Clisby, Luke Fabry), Chase Lawrence of COIN (who also produced the track) and Austin Salters, “leaving is easy” was initially left unfinished. In the wake of a deeply personal loss toward the end of the year, the band returned to the song during their grieving and healing process. What emerged is a track that captures the tension between holding on and letting go — the quiet devastation of loss paired with the determination to keep going forward.

“Music is magic,” says Daugherty. “Sometimes you write something that later becomes exactly what you need — like a message to your future self. In the beginning, we wrote this song as a reminder, ‘leaving is easy, loving is hard,’ about each of us staying committed to the band and our dreams. But after we experienced the worst night of our lives, the song took on new meaning. It became comfort. It felt like something we had written without realizing we would one day need to hear it. What I love most about the song is that it isn’t just heavy — it’s hopeful. The chorus feels like a sunrise to me. Our hope now is to take that pain and turn it into comfort for other people — and if the song can help someone else, then it has purpose.”

Now complete, “leaving is easy” carries a weight that extends beyond music for almost monday, reflecting a moment of reckoning and resilience while offering a message of hope the band did not know they would need when it was first written.

The release also introduces a subtle but meaningful creative shift. Long known for their analog sensibility and sun-soaked sound, almost monday are now zooming in, both literally and emotionally, choosing to romanticize the mundane and focus on small, tangible moments. In a world that can feel overwhelming at scale, “leaving is easy” reminds us that beauty, connection, and meaning still exist right in front of us.

The song’s accompanying video, directed by Sam Fisher, expands on that idea through a cinematic short film lens. Centered around a split-second decision, the visual explores the lasting impact of choosing connection or letting it pass by. It reflects on the moments we almost stop, the people we almost reach, the weight of hindsight, and the quiet urgency of being present. The band asked their close friend and actor, Niko Traubman to be the wondering traveler in the video adding an additional personal layer to the project and deepening the emotional connection behind the visuals.

almost monday will continue their nonstop touring momentum as they join Young the Giant and Cold War Kids for a U.S. run beginning May 24th. The tour kicks off in Las Vegas and wraps on June 27th in Nashville. Full tour info at https://almostmonday.com/live.

Onstage, almost monday have built a reputation for high-voltage performances and a kinetic, sun-soaked energy. The band has appeared at major festivals including Lollapalooza, BottleRock, and Life is Beautiful, opened arenas for AJR, and toured globally with The Driver Era. Their 2024 debut album DIVE expanded their world even further, followed by a sold-out headline tour across the U.S., UK, and Europe.

This year, the momentum continued with performances across New Zealand and Australia supporting The Band Camino, plus a slate of headline dates in China. Back in the U.S., the band hit the stage at Los Angeles’ Kia Forum for iHeartRadio’s 98.7 ALTer EGO, and they’ll make their return to BottleRock later this year.

Following their breakout hits like “can’t slow down” and “jupiter,” the San Diego-based group continues to evolve their signature sound with more music on the way. Their latest single “lost” continues to climb the alternative radio charts, arriving on the heels of a milestone 2026 iHeart Music Awards nomination for Best New Alternative Artist.

With over 1.1B streams, a late-night TV debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, collaborations including Jordana on “jupiter” and work with producers behind OneRepublic and The Killers, the band continues to blur the lines between alt-pop and indie rock with bold creative direction. almost monday continue to define a sound that feels effortless and built for motion.
