Under the shimmering lights of Washington, D.C., Aly & AJ brought pure nostalgia and polished artistry to life during the 20th stop of their Silver Deliverer Tour. The sister duo—Alyson and Amanda Joy Michalka—performed for a packed venue filled with fans whose ages ranged from children discovering their music for the first time to millennials reliving their Disney Channel days.

The night opened with a stellar performance by American singer-songwriter Amanda Shires, whose captivating presence set the perfect tone for the evening. A master of both voice and instrument, Shires wove her way through an enchanting set that showcased her distinctive storytelling and musicianship. She played the fiddle through most of her performance, blending country, folk, and Americana influences in a way that felt both soulful and magnetic. Her warmth and talent won over the crowd instantly, earning enthusiastic applause after every song.

Aly & AJ have come a long way since their early days as Disney stars. Aly first appeared on Phil of the Future, while both sisters captured hearts in the 2006 Disney Channel Original Movie Cow Belles. Their debut album Into the Rush (2005) marked the start of their pop-rock career, and their hit “Potential Breakup Song” from Insomniatic (2007) became an anthem for a generation. After a brief stint releasing music as 78violet and taking a hiatus, the duo returned in 2017 as independent artists with a more mature, alternative-pop sound—one that was beautifully showcased throughout the night.

Celebrating 20 years since their debut, Aly & AJ proved that their evolution has only deepened their connection with fans. The setlist wove together songs from their six albums and multiple EPs, offering both nostalgia and fresh energy. Longtime fans cheered during the throwbacks, especially when they performed “Rush,” the beloved track from Twitches. The sisters’ harmonies were tight, their chemistry effortless, and the production stylish yet intimate.

One of the evening’s most touching moments came when Aly dedicated a song to her son, who has been joining her on tour. AJ smiled proudly, embracing her role as the fun-loving aunt. The show also reflected their advocacy—Aly & AJ have long championed causes like voter registration, mental health awareness, and LGBTQ+ rights—and their words between songs carried messages of unity and empowerment.

The crowd erupted during the encore when the opening beats of “Potential Breakup Song” filled the air. Millennials screamed every lyric, phones lit up the venue, and the energy soared as everyone sang along, transported back to the past.

Between Amanda Shires’ soulful opening and Aly & AJ’s flawless headlining set, the Silver Deliverer Tour stop in D.C. proved to be a powerful celebration of artistry, growth, and sisterhood. Two decades in, it’s clear that Aly & AJ aren’t just nostalgia acts—they’re timeless artists who continue to inspire across generations.
