ASHNIKKO SHARES “POSSESSION OF A WEAPON”

Pop disruptor Ashnikko (she/they) shares the fourth offering from debut album WEEDKILLER, now releasing August 25th via Parlophone.

“Possession Of A Weapon” marks one of Ashnikko’s most personal and political songs to date as we see her put the overturning of Roe v Wade under the microscope and explore the outcome. “It’s just flesh, I can be grotesque / Move my body like chess,” they sing, describing how the body has become politicised, and how people with full lives and private desires are reduced to pawns within the corridors of power.

Speaking on the track Ashnikko states “the human body has become a political chess piece in a game we cannot see. i’m in possession of the formidable pussy weapon. i built my world out of paper mache, only for the eyes in the sky to come rain down on it and leave it decimated.”

The track follows on from recent release of WEEDKILLER music video which gave us a glimpse into Ashnikko’s self-written post-apocalyptic world as we witnessed Ashnikko’s battle with the menacing Weedkiller robot, an enemy designed to symbolise Earth’s environmental catastrophe and technological advancement.

After a run of festivals this summer, including the recently completed Coachella, The WEEDKILLER tour will hit the US, Europe and UK including headline shows at London’s Alexandra Palace, Brooklyn Mirage in NYC and Élysée Montmartre in Paris. Their live performances are notoriously riotous – with Ashnikko writhing, jumping and thrashing around the stage whilst the crowd follow suit – and in previous years they’ve packed out tents and stages across the world.
