The foremost awards ceremony for film in the state of Georgia returns to honor top film industry leaders
Returning after a decade-long hiatus, the IMAGE Film Awards Gala will kick off the 2019 Atlanta Film Festival by honoring four of the Georgia film industry’s most influential leaders on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at the Fox Theatre’s Egyptian Ballroom.
This year, the Atlanta Film Festival is proud to honor an esteemed group of individuals who have made outstanding impacts on the development of Georgia’s film industry and community. Honorees include Grammy-winning rapper, actor and producer T.I., who has made a splash in the film and television industry with his Atlanta-based production company Grand Hustle Productions. State Representative Betsy Holland, Director of Culture & Engagement for Warner Media (formerly Turner Broadcasting) and the former Chair of the Creative Economy Committee for the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, will also be honored for her commitment to growing film and television business in the state.
In addition to these distinguished honorees, the Gala will also pay tribute to Tom Luse, Emmy nominated Executive Producer of AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” filmed here in Georgia, as well as Attorney General Chris Carr. Attorney General Carr has supported the state’s film industry through his prior role as the Commissioner of the Department of Economic Development, which includes both the Georgia Film Office and the Georgia Council of the Arts – two organizations vital to Georgia’s film industry and arts community.
“The IMAGE Film Awards Gala is an extraordinary opportunity for us to thank the key movers and shakers in Georgia’s film community that have made contributions that will affect generations of Georgia filmmakers and artists to come,” said Chris Escobar, ATLFF Executive Director.
Since the last IMAGE Film Awards in 2009, annual spending on production has increased from $200 million to over $2 billion, with this enormous growth no doubt in part due to contributions from this year’s honorees. Previous honorees include Spike Lee, Burt Reynolds, Will Packer, Tyler Perry Studios, the Georgia Film Office, Governor Zell Miller and Cicely Tyson, plus many more.
Sponsors of the event include City National Bank, Emory College of the Arts & Sciences Department of Film & Media Studies, Greenberg Traurig and Warner Media.
In tribute to the Atlanta Film Society’s (ATLFS) original name, IMAGE Film & Video, the Gala serves as the only fundraising event for ATLFS and will be instrumental in growing the organization’s reach, impact, and service to the community and artists it serves. As a fundraiser, tickets are sold separately from festival badges.
The Atlanta Film Festival is the annual centerpiece of educational and enriching film programming that is provided year-round by parent organization, the Atlanta Film Society.
