Avril Lavigne’s Greatest Hits Tour with Simple Plan and Girlfriends takes Mansfield Xfinity Center

Avril Lavigne‘s The Greatest Hits tour continued in Mansfield for a SOLD OUT show at the Xfinity Center. With over 15,000 people in attendance, the amphitheater was filled with fans that have enjoyed Avril Lavigne over the last 20 years. Girlfriends, a relatively newer band from California was first to take the stage opening with “Jessica” off of their debut album “girlfriends” which was released in October of 2020. The crowd sang along with their cover of “I Kissed a Girl” by Katy Perry before finishing with their top song “California”.

Simple Plan put on a show to remember for ages and truly had the best energy of the night. The 25 year old Canadian Pop Punk band opened with “I’d Do Anything” off of their 2002 album “No Pads, No Helmets… Just Balls”. They continued into “What’s New Scooby Doo?” from the 2002-2006 show What’s New Scooby Doo as 10 fans in Scooby Doo costumes busted onto stage in every direction dancing throughout the rest of the song. Continuing the nostalgia, Simple Plan played “I’m Just a Kid” which was featured in “Cheaper by the Dozen” and “Grind, the New Guy”. They finished their set with “Perfect” which is honestly the best description of Simple Plan’s set.

Finally after all the anticipation, Avril Lavigne took the stage appearing on a higher level than the rest of her band as they started playing “Girlfriend”. Every fan was on their feet and singing along to every word of the song off of her 2007 album, “The Best Damn Thing”. She continued into “What the Hell” off of her fourth studio album from 2011 “Goodbye Lullaby”. Simple Plan came on stage to help Avril cover their song “Addicted”. To make everyone’s 2002 pop punk dreams come true, she finished with her most well known song “Sk8r Boi” which had the energy in the amphitheater through the roof.
