ZZZ. UNVEILS NEW SOUND ON ‘CLOSE YOUR EYES & LISTEN’ EP
Genre-upending Miami artist Zzz. releases his Close Your Eyes & Listen EP, an emotionally raw and musically rich project that mixes the powerful singer’s signature alternative pop with propulsive production and new guitar-driven strains from acoustic to upbeat indie, and pop-punk. He also unveils an emotional music video for ”Love is Better Blind” that captures the spirit of the project.
The six song EP is full of surprises. On “Love Is Better Blind,” produced by AyoWhit and Scro finds Zzz. at his most vulnerable, letting love pull him up and out of a dark place.
Elsewhere, Close Your Eyes & Listen is powered by undeniable urgency. Three songs are produced by Goldfinger founder John Feldmann (Avril Lavigne, Blink-182, Yungblud), including two of the singles: “One More Night,” a catchy alt-pop cut that captures the highs and lows of living like there’s no tomorrow; and “Somebody Else,” a sonically explosive track that explores the tension between Zzz.’s romantic loyalties and artistic ambitions over crashing drums.
Other EP collaborators include Victor Thell, Haan, and RØMANS, tapped by Zzz. to flesh out his vision of a sound more visceral and emotive than anything he’s released before — fueled in part by live instrumentation, as well as his strikingly dynamic voice and wholly unfiltered lyrics.
In hindsight, Zzz.’s recent songs ahead of Close Your Eyes & Listen have been building to this moment. Earlier this year brought the euphoric “1” — a shifting mix of grunge guitar and bright synths — while he closed out 2024 with a pair of companion pieces that captured his raw talent and intensity: the achingly honest “scared to fall asleep” and “u don’t care no more.”
Zzz. has already established himself as a musical rulebreaker with a knack for creating bold soundscapes for his passion-driven anthems. But with Close Your Eyes & Listen, he goes both broader and deeper, delivering a set of songs that begs to be experienced in person.
