B0YG1RL ANNOUNCES DEBUT ALBUM B0YG1RL – OUT IN OCTOBER
Following the release of “MOND LAN FINI”, South Florida electronic band B0YG1RL has just announced the release of their forthcoming self-titled debut album B0YG1RL – out in October via Surf Gang Records. To accompany this announcement, they’ve shared the album’s second single, “SHOW ME”, alongside a music video shot at Miami’s Club Space. The self-titled B0YG1RL is a conceptual project focusing on an end-of-the-world scenario inspired by the idea of everyone’s soul being absorbed into a single consciousness. It arrives as a futurist, psychedelic, and cinematic project that oscillates between the nostalgia of traditional Caribbean rhythms and the industrial, alien resonance of modern electronic music. They will bring the project to life through an album visualizer shot at a deserted Club Space and performances including direct support for Argentinian electronic artist Six Sex, appearances at III Points, and always forever Festival and MoMA PS1 at III Points Miami, and an album release show at the storied Club Space Techno Loft.
B0YG1RL is the Miami-based band fronted by June Vinette and Angela Rio, working across experimental electronic music and multimedia visual art. Their music draws from local Miami bass, baile funk, Haitian konpas and dembow, stitching these forms together with an interest in the spaces between club music, community and place. From the white-hot, fizzing-synth frenzy of their breakout single “Je M’appelle Tété” to the bludgeoning 808s and unexpected downtempo groundings of their EXIT 2B EP, B0YG1RL move between different registers without settling into a particular genre or scene. Released on Surf Gang Records in May of this year, EXIT 2B, which earned Best New Music and an 8.2 rating from Pitchfork, alongside a Best New Track for “Little Haiti”, extends this approach through rule-breaking club tracks and more restrained passages, using a raw, vérité style to explore community, resilience, Afro-diasporic storytelling and Miami geography. B0YG1RL’s visual work runs alongside the music, frequently archiving local oral histories and translating them into public video portraits, community-led activations and other mediums. Their work documents Black and Caribbean spaces across South Florida, paying particular attention to the textures and spiritual architecture of Miami. Across both sides of the project, B0YG1RL’s practice is rooted in the same place, with music and film offering different ways of tracing the people, histories and environments that surround them.
