Memphis rap star BlocBoy JB shares his anthemic new mixtape, Bacc 2 Da Bloc, released with acclaimed producer Tay Keith. The MC has been teasing the project, dropping heaters like “Home Alone,” “M.E.M 2 Jacksonville” with SpotemGottem, and“Day Day N Craig.” The set also includes captivating guest spots from EST Gee and Pooh Shiesty. Dipping and diving through sounds and styles, BlocBoy JB has managed to develop his voice as one of rap’s most multi-talented, and with Bacc 2 Da Bloc he’s delivered one of the most exciting tapes of the new year

Clocking in at 15 tracks, BlocBoy’s new mixtape offers fans a variety of flows, plus impeccable beat selection in collaboration with Tay Keith. On the EST Gee-featuring “Smoke,” the duo take turns rhyming over booming 808s and a synth line that sends chills down the spine. BlocBoy immediately sends a reminder to any who’ve forgotten why his star’s still rising: “I’m back in my bag / They stealing my swag / But this the original flow.” Elsewhere, like on “Day Day N Craig” (a reference to the iconic Next Fridaycharacters), BlocBoy weaves quotable bars over turn-up trap. He proves his mettle as both a street-wise MC and one who can flip a joke on a dime.

BlocBoy and Tay previewed Bacc 2 Da Bloc with early singles, which have all immediately connected with listeners. The most recent, “Home Alone,” arrived alongside a hysterical video showing BlocBoy scrambling to set up a party while the rest of his family is away.Beyond his recent collaborations with Tay Keith, BlocBoy also released “Forgot About Bloc” in August 2021, which sampled Dr. Dre’s classic single “Forgot About Dre.” In 2020 he released his long-awaited debut album, Fatboy, which featured NLE Choppa, G Herbo, Yo Gotti, and Trippie Redd. Before that, BlocBoy JB quickly became a hotly tipped name after he released 2017’s “Shoot” and 2018’s Drake-assisted “Look Alive,” both of which established his energetic persona and elastic wordplay. Though he’s already been an XXL Freshman and BET Hip Hop Award winner, BlocBoy JB is still showing off new sides of himself. Bacc 2 Da Bloc is expansive yet focused, a breathtaking showcase of one of the most exciting rappers in the game.
