English singer-songwriter Cameron Saul shares debut album ‘Simeo’, released via Tenwest Group.

Cameron Saul’s music has a rich and cultured background, born from a life lived between diverse cultures ranging from the Amazon rainforest to East Africa and the Himalayas. As an artist Saul blends his folk roots with contemporary production and global textures, resonating with audiences who seek music with meaning, depth, and connection

Saul’s debut album ‘Simeo’ follows on from two standout singles, ‘Dance Alone’ and ‘Bahia’. The album title refers to a word that Cameron learned from people in the mountains of Uganda meaning warmth. Not just warmth as temperature, but as humanity: connection, compassion, and belonging. It became his compass, reminding him to use creativity to inspire change.

It is apparent after listening to the opening track ‘River Flowing’, a gorgeous stripped back track written in the Amazon rainforest about the importance of our connection with nature, that ‘Simeo’ is a wonderfully intimate, reflective, free flowing and authentic piece of art. There is powerful imagery throughout this album painted in Saul’s insightful lyricism. Cameron creates a strong throughline and sound, filled with sensual strings, delicate vocals and sweeping elongated harmonies. ‘Simeo’, creates an immersive world to get lost in.

‘Diving Back In’, the third track on ‘Simeo’ opens with rich string melodies and showcases Saul’s passionate vocals. ‘Seabird’ (track 6) is a wonderfully light and soaring track. Through the use of repetition, soft guitar strums and keys, the track gradually builds taking one to a higher place, creating an emotive and nostalgic sound.

The lyrics in ‘Perfect Symmetry’ are a standout: Sound of silence drowning out / The urge to talk you back from the edge / Open your heart let the blood bleed crimson to red. The second to last track, a cover of Womack & Womack’s ‘Teardrops’ is an intimate song, as if Cameron is in the room with you. With just a guitar for much of the song, we hear Saul’s raw, unfiltered emotion. Album closer ‘Silk Road’ is eerie, atmospheric and dramatic with the use of a heavy bass and evocative drums. The intro takes its time, setting the scene effectively, almost anticipating what could come next from Saul. The track feels just as much of a closing chapter as it does an opening door.

On sharing his debut body of work with the world, Cameron adds: “This album is a storybook of the most potent moments, phases, reflections and experiences from my journey. For twenty-five years songwriting has been my way of processing and understanding my inner universe and the world around me. Songwriting enables me to process and reflect in reflective way that hopefully others can relate to. The album is inspired by some of the most powerful experiences of my life. From being in the Amazon Rainforest with Indigenous communities to the shock of watching the murder of George Flloyd in plain sight on social media. I explore the feelings of loss, heartbreak, greed, exhilaration and adventure along with our connection to nature and the divine – often inspired by my nomadic life lived largely on the road in diverse cultures which somehow provide a rich refuge and anonymity. The catalyst for recording was the pandemic; an opportunity to be stationary and finally record.”

All 12 tracks on ‘Simeo’ have a story and Saul manages to bring the listener on his journey with ease, encouraging one to look within. ‘Simeo’ is an insightful interpretation of living with love, presence, and intention in a rapidly shifting world. Lush, resonant instrumentation lures the listener into an upbeat and captivating universe, equal parts mystical and yet a celebration of the real and the natural.
