Colombian folk-pop band Morat brought a full house of fans on Valentine’s Day for the tenth night of their USA 2023 World Tour. Playing in Boston for the first time at Big Night Live, Morat certainly did not disappoint with an impressively high-energy set and an even more energetic crowd.
In the half-hour proceeding the start of the show, fans quickly filled the 2,000-capacity venue to the brim. The excitement and anticipation for the show were palpable — several fans could be seen holding Colombian flags and showing off the band’s merch.
Once the house lights began to dim and the stage’s screen was illuminated, the crowd evolved into a sea of smiles and cheers. Morat opened with their song “Besos En Guerra” accompanied by powerful drums from Martín Vargas Morales, and a dynamic bass guitar performance by Simón Vargas Morales. Toward the middle of their set, Morat shifted the energy to a slower song, “Enamórate de Alguien Más”. Fans immediately took out their phone flashlights to sway along to the wistful love song. Friends and couples hugged, strangers smiled at each other, and every word of the song was faithfully sung back to the stage. Later on during “Mi Nuevo Vicio,” all five members stood side by side at the edge of the stage to perform the high-energy song. Bright orange stage lights flooded the venue as the band jumped and danced in unison.

An aspect of Morat that contributes to their ability to connect so deeply with their fans is the fact that the band members have known each other since they were five years old. When speaking directly to the audience, lead singer Simón mentioned this fact, comparing his relationship with his bandmates to those who might’ve met on a television show, or simply later in life. Their lifelong connection is clear in the way they collaborate so well on stage.
Despite this being their first time performing in Boston, Morat was able to bring together thousands of fans, many being of the Latino community. The band’s passion for love and life was clearly reflected in both their charismatic performance, and in their loyal fanbase that came to support them at Boston’s Big Night Live.
