Country-Rock Trio Deltona Releases New Single “How To Not Help A Heartbreak”
Nashville-based power trio Deltona share their latest single — a wildly funny but deeply soulful track called “How To Not Help A Heartbreak”.
“We’re pumped to drop ‘How To Not Help A Heartbreak,’” says Deltona. “It’s one of those songs that feels real because we’ve all been there — making bad decisions and knowing full well we’re just making it worse. It’s a breakup song with a little edge, telling the story of how you just can’t seem to get out of your own way. We can’t wait for you to hear this one!”
Produced by Jason Massey (Cole Swindell, Kelsea Ballerini), “How To Not Help A Heartbreak” brings vocalist Ned Abernathy, guitarist Caleb Miller, and drummer Chris Deaton’s feel-good brand of country-rock to a fiery midtempo powerhouse. Co-written by Deltona, Jacob Scherer, and Canaan Smith (a platinum-selling singer/songwriter who’s also penned songs for superstars like Cody Johnson and Jason Aldean), the impossibly catchy track delivers a play-by-play account of getting over a bad breakup, matching its unfiltered honesty with plenty of self-effacing humor.
Spotlighting their signature Southern storytelling, Deltona kick off “How To Not Help A Heartbreak” with a face-to-face glimpse into the breakup’s ugly aftermath (e.g., “Forgot to put the joint out/‘Bout burned the house down/Heartbreak bender on ten”). After fully owning up to his missteps (“Bein’ so redneck pathetic/A damn trainwreck, hell, I get it”), Abernathy doles out a bit of hard-won wisdom at the song’s soaring chorus (“’Cause pourin’ bourbon on it only makes it worse/Much as I’ve tried, man, you think I’d learn/Last-call love only complicates it/The ‘hey, you up?’ text, it’s a regret waitin’”). Reaching a glorious intensity at the bridge (featuring Deaton’s stomping drumbeats and a ferocious guitar solo from Miller), “How To Not Help A Heartbreak” ultimately cements Deltona’s status as one of country’s greatest new purveyors of classic heartbreak anthems.
The lyric video for “How To Not Help A Heartbreak” leans into the song’s tongue-in-cheek spin on post-breakup advice, presenting each line as an urgent directive scrawled in chalk across a school blackboard.
The latest in a hot streak of singles from Deltona, “How To Not Help A Heartbreak” marks the follow-up to “Love Don’t Love Me” — a hard-charging but confessional track that premiered last month alongside its freewheeling video. Back in August, the band made their debut with “Heartbreak Fix,” offering up a potent introduction to their arena-ready sound and soul-baring songwriting.
Hailing from three different states — Abernathy grew up in Georgia, Deaton was raised in Tennessee, and Miller calls Ohio home — Deltona first linked up at a writers’ round at Nashville’s legendary Bluebird Café and instantly discovered their unstoppable chemistry. After bonding over a love of country tradition and a serious need to get loud, the trio began crafting songs together and sharing their heartfelt covers of modern country classics. Thanks to their jaw-dropping talent and effortless charisma, Deltona quickly gained major traction online, amassing nearly 14K TikTok followers in just six months. In the past few months alone, they’ve built a reputation as an incendiary live act, opening for the likes of legendary hitmaker Rodney Atkins, country stars George Birge and Cooper Alan, and platinum-selling singer/songwriter Avery Anna. Stay tuned for more new music from Deltona soon.
