DMV RAPPER BLACK FORTUNE RELEASES NEW MIXTAPE OSSHYONO WITH PHILLY PRODUCER SWAGGYONO
Black Fortune and trusted producer Swaggyono have delivered their fiery new mixtape, OSSHYONO, featuring guest spots from Skrilla and Chuckyy. The six-track new project follows a steady rise from Black Fortune, the exuberant and expressive rapper and OSSH MOB leader, who’s cult-like fanbase and diligent release cadence have made him one of DMV’s brightest young stars.
“OSSHYONO is basically me talking about the things that I’ve been through in my life. My trials and tribulations. Things that I experienced, things that I’ve seen,” Fortune says. The budding hip hop star has built a devoted following using his high-octane and boisterous energy to explore his coming-of-age story and exorcise the haunts of his old life to rave reviews, from The FADER to Flaunt, RESPECT and beyond.
“Things that my friends went through. The beats are dark, grungy and authentic,” he continues. “They speak for themself. But it’s also fun, fast paced, and something you can ride to, party to, or catch a vibe to. There’s something on this product for everyone to enjoy.”
Those beats come courtesy of Swaggyono, who worked with Fortune on his most recent single, “Weight On Me.” The North Philadelphia native is known for his work with Meek Mill’s Dreamchasers imprint, including collaborations with Diamond Street Keem and Nicki Minaj. His blend of trap, soul and rambunctious energy powers Fortune’s incandescent delivery seamlessly.
Look no further than “Penny Proud,” the latest single lifted from OSSHYONO, for an example. Haunting, rumbling 808s provide the backbone for Fortune’s thoughtful rambles, which sound like mostly intrusive thoughts before the listener is chin-checked by Fortune’s subtle mourning (“In the traphouse getting that bag / My youngin died it made me sad”).
OSSHYONO, which draws on the ‘OSSH’ world that Black Fortune has built for his audience, marks Fortune’s first full-length release since 2022’s 444, and his first project since joining Epic Records last year. It is a formal reintroduction and is set to elevate his time-tested talents to national heights. As he puts it, “It’s the transformation from me being a street n***a, to a superstar.”
