18-year old Elle Coves introduces herself with the stunning ‘Before I Fall Apart’, available now via Platoon and already widely-anticipated on TikTok (where it has amassed over 1 million views).

Widescreen pop with a tactile touch, Elle Coves was born in Germany to Spanish parents, before moving to Ireland at the age of thirteen. A natural nomad – and self-confessed introvert – music proved something of an early mouthpiece for Elle: she recalls scribbling lyrics in the margins of her study books during class, and recording melodies in the bathroom during lunch-break. Whatever she lacked in social confidence, however, Elle Coves quickly made up for on stage, having spent the last few years juggling her studies with local gigs in support of the likes of Lewis Capaldi, Wild Youth and Moncrieff. Though just her debut single, ‘Before I Fall Apart’ suggests an artistic maturity beyond Elle Coves’ years, whilst at the same time perfectly encapsulating the dizzying highs and temporarily-crushing lows of teenage life.

It’s all there in ‘Before I Fall Apart’, a cinematic coming-of-age banger inspired by the intersection of singer-songwriters like Maggie Rogers, Max Martin’s anthemic work with Taylor Swift, and the shimmering 70s rock of Fleetwood Mac. “For me,” says Elle, “Before I Fall Apart’ is about realising that no amount of running or hiding from your feelings will keep you away from that person; that your paths are inexplicably entangled with one another, and there’s no escaping it. It’s about desperately needing reassurance and hoping that they want things to work out as much as you do.” ‘Before I Fall Apart’ was mixed by the legendary Spike Stent (Ed Sheeran, Florence + the Machine), resulting in a record that – far from falling apart – in fact sounds like a breakthrough.
