flowerovlove drops new single, “Shady”
Named as a 2025 artist to watch by Rolling Stone and InStyle, flowerovlove returns with her melodic new single, “Shady” released via Capitol Records. She wrote the track with GRAMMY® winner PomPom (John Legend, Suki Waterhouse), who also produced, and Skyler Stonestreet. In the accompanying video, directed by flowerovlove and her brother, Wilfred Cisse, she calls out an ex’s “shady” behavior from her pink-hued bedroom.
The 20-year-old mini skirt warrior gave “Shady” its live debut at Austin City Limits Festival, where she made a memorable entrance by emerging from a gigantic lipstick. In September, she opened for Khalid at the Washington State Fair and supported Haim on a series of dates. Earlier in the summer, she toured with Halsey and opened for Olivia Rodrigo at London’s Hyde Park.
Praising her Lollapalooza debut, Rolling Stone said, “Flowerovlove put on a colorful set, literally.” Atwood Magazine observed, “flowerovlove stole the show, not once, but twice with her performances at the Bud Light stage and Toyota Music Den…[She] made an effort to connect with listeners on a deeper level…”
Her 2024 hit “BOYS” is heard in Season 2 of the hit Netflix rom-com “Nobody Wants This.” Hailing ““BOYS” as “a feel-good banger,” FLOOD Magazine praised flowerovlove as a “quintessentially Gen Z artist.” Wonderland Magazine said, “Soaring vocals, blissful beats and a dazzling hook provide much entertainment…”
“Shady” is the follow-up to her summer hit, “I’m your first,” which appeared on NME’s Best New Tracks and New Bangers playlists. Wonderland said, “The track is cinematic, a ballad for the internet age, with a soaring chorus.” Clash praised it as a “punchy piece of pop confection…flowerovlove lets her paramour know she is their first baddie.” View the official video for “I’m your first,” directed by Matty Peacock (Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande), HERE.
Winner of a Music Week Women In Music award and nominated for a MOBO, flowerovlove has amassed over 123 million combined global streams in her career to date, including 35 million streams for “breaking news” and nearly 20 million for “a girl like me.” PAPER spoke with flowerovlove about songwriting, connecting with Olivia Rodrigo’s fans and fashion in this recent feature.
