GHISELA ELJACH AND NELSON NEIRA LEAD A NIGHT OF TRANSFORMATION FOR WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS IN GREENVILLE

The Latino community of South Carolina’s Upstate region is celebrating a major milestone: the 10-year anniversary of InSouth Magazine, a groundbreaking publication that has served as a voice, showcase, and bridge for thousands of immigrants. Founded in 2015 by Colombian immigrant, publicist, author, and community leader Ghisela Eljach, the magazine was born out of her personal need for connection and guidance in a new country—and evolved into an essential platform for the empowerment of Latinos in a predominantly English-speaking region.
Since its very first issue, The Winter Issue, InSouth Magazine has documented, celebrated, and elevated the growth of Latinos across the southern United States. With 57 issues published and a growing digital presence that now reaches North Carolina, Georgia, and Florida, the magazine has tackled key topics such as health, finance, immigration, and education—while actively supporting scholarship fundraising efforts and collaborating with nonprofits across multiple sectors.
As part of this historic celebration, InSouth Magazine presents a special edition of The Best of Latinos in The Upstate Awards 2025, featuring 10 categories that recognize outstanding Latino-owned businesses across the region. Nominated and voted on by the public, these awards pay tribute to entrepreneurs and professionals who have made a lasting mark through innovation, community impact, and a commitment to excellence.
The award ceremony will take place on September 18 during an elegant Cocktail Night event, which will also feature a tribute to the 25 Upstate Latino Pioneers —visionary leaders, business owners, and professionals who have transformed the Latino community through resilience, purpose, and service. Among those honored are inspiring figures such as Cynthia Fryer in mental health, Jairo Maldonado in youth entrepreneurship, and Yazmin Bruce in financial education.
More than a magazine, InSouth has been a life project with a collective impact. Under Eljach’s leadership, the publication has shown remarkable adaptability: strengthening its digital platform during the pandemic, launching a weekly newsletter in 2024, and now, in 2025, solidifying its role as a driver of change through events that celebrate, educate, and uplift the community.

“These 10 years are not just about editorial milestones—they represent the journey of a community that has grown, found its voice, and deserves to be seen with dignity and respect,” says Ghisela Eljach, who also published her debut book Una historia para contar: vivencias de una inmigrante, a personal memoir that has inspired many to turn their migration struggles into leadership opportunities.
InSouth Magazine shows no signs of slowing down. Its vision for the next decade is clear: to continue amplifying Latino stories, expand coverage nationally, and remain a bridge between cultures, generations, and dreams.
