Global Afropop Artist Adekunle Gold to Play Royal Festival Hall with 41-Piece Orchestra & Band!
Global Afropop trailblazer and cultural curator/tastemaker Adekunle Gold is fresh from the release of his sixth studio album, Fuji. In celebration, he will play a special one-off show at Royal Festival Hall on 23rd November.
Fuji is AG’s ambitious tribute to the Fuji genre, a fusion project blending the raw energy of Fuji (with its layered percussion, chants, and street-born charisma) with modern Afrobeats, pop, hip-hop, and electronic elements. Here, he reimagines Fuji for today’s international audience: AG has become the benchmark for Afrofusion, blending his Lagos-rooted pride and honoring the genre’s depth while making it resonate with a new global generation.
The album’s rollout included a run of acclaimed singles, each with visuals: ‘Obimo’, ‘Coco Money’, ‘Bobo’ &‘Believe’. and features a dynamic range of artists including: Davido, 6lack, Cruel Santino, Tkay Maidza, Robert Glasper & more. Fuji music is all about community and bringing creatives together, which has been unveiled on this album with these features, and with samples including from the legendary Bill Withers. Previous collaborators of AG’s include the likes of Khalid, Pharrell Williams, Nile Rodgers and Stefflon Don.
On FUJI, Adekunle Gold holds a mirror to his emotions in a way he has never done before. While previous projects explored desire, fame, and self-defined success, here Gold is pensive, honest, and precise, weighing the clashing emotions of triumph, grief, and reinvention.
Across its tracks, FUJI oscillates between celebratory moments suffused with confidence and intimate reflections that reckon with loss – most notably the passing of his father – and the journey of rediscovering himself. It is a beautiful and ambitious sonic feast, weaving together soul, R&B, Afropop, Apala, and Fuji. At its core, FUJI is about openness. Rooted in a genre that historically thrived on unfiltered truth, Adekunle Gold lays his desires, fears, philosophies, and reflections bare.
Equally significant is Gold’s reconnection to his Yoruba heritage and royal lineage, which reframed his relationship with his identity and artistry. As with each stage of his career – from the storytelling of About 30 to the invention of Afro Pop Vol. 1 and the cultural reimaginings of Catch Me If You Can and Tequila Ever After – FUJI represents a man reborn.
