MERGUI RELEASES NEW SINGLE “GF”
Rising pop singer-songwriter Mergui unveils his new single “GF”, the second offering from his upcoming EP, Gut Feeling, arriving November 20th via REPUBLIC Collective in partnership with Saban Music Partners.
On “GF,” Mergui captures the rush of falling for someone without knowing where it will lead. The lyrics convey the uncertainty of not knowing where a relationship may lead, and the instinct to trust the feeling and take a chance anyways.
Mergui shares, “‘GF’ is about this feeling I’ve had my whole life, both in and out of relationships. It’s about following your gut. Sometimes you have absolutely no idea if something’s gonna work out, but something in you just tells you to go for it anyway. I make so many decisions based on feelings, it’s honestly just part of who I am. Like, take a long-distance relationship. What proof do you have that it’s gonna work? Literally none. But something in you tells you it’s worth a shot, so you go for it.”
“GF” follows his recent single “Spotlight,” which introduced the forthcoming Gut Feeling EP out next month. Executive produced by GRAMMY-nominated Jesse Shatkin [Sia, Charlie Puth], the EP traces the emotional arc of a relationship and the different stages that come with choosing someone. Gut Feeling was executive produced by Shatkin with writing contributions from AJ Mitchell, Salem Ilese, and Whitney Phillips.
Earlier this summer, Mergui released his single “Alien,” a catchy, heartfelt pop anthem celebrating individuality, following the emotional ballad “3 Tears” earlier this year. “3 Tears” was written with GRAMMY-winning Amy Allen [Sabrina Carpenter, Harry Styles] and Andrew Wells [Halsey, Phoebe Bridgers], and drew praise from Atwood Magazine for Mergui’s “profound vocal gifts.” Not to mention, Mergui delivered an electric performance of “Alien” on the TODAY Show, bringing his powerhouse vocals and dynamic stage presence to live television.
The past year marked a breakthrough for Mergui’s career. His viral hit “LIVING ROOM” with collaborator maryjoamassed over 10 million streams across platforms and inspired more than 50,000 original TikTok videos. He also released covers of Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me” and A Great Big World’s “Say Something,” the latter of which has earned over 15 million streams across platforms. He gained major sync placements on EA Sports FC 26for his song “Risk It All” and The Sims with “Purple Rose.” Additional highlights include the release of “Nothing Gold Can Stay” with Zevia and headlining an intimate acoustic tour presented by Sofar Sounds.
