GRAMMY AWARD-WINNING ICON MÝA ANNOUNCES TENTH STUDIO ALBUM RETROSPECT — HER FIRST IN EIGHT YEARS — OUT SPRING 2026 VIA PLANET 9 / VIRGIN MUSIC
Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, producer, and cultural icon Mýa has officially announced her highly anticipated tenth studio album Retrospect, arriving Spring 2026 via her independent label Planet 9, in partnership with Virgin Music. The release marks Mýa’s first full-length studio album in eight years, following 2018’s T.K.O. (The Knock Out), and represents a reflective yet forward-looking chapter in a career defined by ownership, evolution, intention, and a lifelong connection to the craft.
The announcement follows Mýa’s live appearance on SHERRI, where she talked about the inspiration behind the album and revealed select details about the project, including guest appearances from 21 Savage, Joyner Lucas, and more — a testament to her continued ability to bridge generations, genres, and collaborators while remaining unmistakably herself and deeply hands-on in every aspect of her work.
Music wasn’t just a part of my life; it was the heartbeat of my home, the foundation of my joy. This album is a celebration of that and the kind of funk that never fades. It’s a bridge between the past and the future, honoring the greats, my inspirations, while forging something new. — Mýa
The SHERRI appearance comes as Mýa builds momentum around her current single “ASAP”. Produced by Mýa alongside Lamar “MyGuyMars” Edwards, the smooth, mid-tempo R&B track blends classic soul, funk, and modern groove. Of “ASAP” Mýa shares, “It’s power and sensuality in the same breath — confidence, control, and desire with no hesitation.” Released last Friday, January 30th, “ASAP” was one of the most added records at R&B radio, earning early support across major markets including Los Angeles, Washington, DC, Detroit, and nationally on SiriusXM.
Retrospect reflects Mýa’s enduring commitment to creative control, longevity, and joy. Begun in 2016, the album has been shaped over nearly a decade as a deeply personal salute to her earliest musical influences — rooted in late ’70s through late ’80s funk, R&B, and soul — while seamlessly infusing contemporary sounds and perspectives. Retrospect underscores a career built on intention rather than trend chasing, framing reinvention not as performance but as refinement, and celebrating the love of music itself through soulful storytelling, emotional clarity, and a spirit of celebration that spans generations. The album will be available in Stereo, Dolby Atmos, and Sony 360 Reality Audio, offering fans an immersive listening experience that honors both her sonic roots and forward-looking vision.
Over the past year, Mýa has remained deeply active across music, touring, and catalog milestones. In 2025, she celebrated the 25th anniversary of her platinum-certified sophomore album Fear of Flying with a definitive vinyl reissue and its first-ever Dolby Atmos streaming release — revisiting the era that produced enduring classics like “Case of the Ex.” The milestone was further underscored by her acclaimed, high-energy performance of the song at the 2025 BET Awards, where her sharp choreography and commanding vocals earned widespread praise and reaffirmed her status as one of R&B’s most dynamic and technically precise live performers. She also joined Brandy and Monica on The Boy Is Mine tour, delivering standout performances that reinforced her reputation as a dynamic and road-tested live artist.
With a career spanning more than 25 years, Mýa’s impact includes era-defining hits and collaborations such as the Grammy Award-winning “Lady Marmalade” with Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, and Pink, which turns 25 this year, and the global smash “Ghetto Supastar” alongside Pras and Ol’ Dirty Bastard. Yet even with a catalog that helped shape modern R&B and pop, Mýa’s focus remains firmly forward-facing.
Long before conversations around artistic ownership became mainstream, Mýa founded Planet 9, reclaimed her catalog, and built a fully independent career on her own terms — a foundation that continues to inform her work today. As she prepares to unveil more music from Retrospect, Mýa continues to define longevity on her own terms — evolving without compromise, leading without concession, and proving that independence, when paired with intention, only grows more powerful with time.
