GRAMMY-NOMINATED SINGER/SONGWRITER HAYES CARLL RELEASES THE EASY GOING NEW TRACK “HIGH”
Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Hayes Carll has released the laid-back new song “High” off of his highly anticipated, forthcoming album, We’re Only Human. The album is set for release on August 8th via Hwy 87 Records/Thirty Tigers.
Opening with flugelhorn, flute and piano, the easygoing track serves a metaphor for that rare feeling of inner peace, recognizing a moment when fear, stress, chaos and confusion subside. Carll sings, “I have chased a feeling all these years / Blocked by insecurities and fears / Oh it feels so good as that all disappears / I have chased this feeling all these years.” It is a reminder to stop, breathe and savor that state of mind when it arrives.

Hayes Carll has spent his celebrated and critically acclaimed career masterfully crafting songs that allow us to take a good look at ourselves through his character narratives and sage perspectives. On We’re Only Human, he turns the mirror back on himself for the most deeply introspective and reflective work of his career. We’re Only Human is a contemplative and personal album, but it is a work with Carll’s signature all over it as it overflows with his extraordinary balance of thoughtful lyrics, grit, tenderness and sardonic wit. “The record was inspired by a desire to start listening to my inner voice rather than running from it. The songs are my way of solidifying the lessons I’ve learned, not because I have all the answers, but because I need the reminder that we’re all only human,” says Carll.
We’re Only Human is the long-awaited follow up to 2021’s critically acclaimed You Get It All. The album garnered high praise from the media, including Rolling Stone, The Associated Press, American Songwriter, No Depression, Holler, Glide Magazine and many more.
