INTRODUCING REUBEN AND THE BULLHORN SINGERS – SHARE STUNNING NEW SINGLE “POWERFUL”
In 2021 at The Calgary Stampede mainstage, acclaimed indie-folk artist Reuben and the Dark brought out Blackfoot pow-wow champion singing group, Bullhorn Singers, for an unforgettable live performance that stopped the audience, and the artists themselves, in their tracks. What was an impromptu performance and unlikely union of culture, life experience and sound in front of a crowd of thousands was electric and the birth of something special. This led to the brand new collaborative project, Reuben and the Bullhorn Singers. They have now released their official debut single “Powerful”, via Red Music Rising/ADA.
Alongside the single, they have shared a video introducing the project, which was recorded as they prepared for their Edmonton Folk Festival appearance this past summer. The collaborative project is continuing conversation about reconciliation and putting words into action through music, which is what makes this project so compelling.
Reuben mentions the inspiration behind “Powerful” and the project saying, “The work we are doing with Bullhorn Singers feels important. It is powerful and a testament to how people in this city can come together, differences aside and make something beautiful…Not in any political sense, but because of its power. This is the art we create from reconciliation and this is the action”.
While “Powerful” is their first official release together, Reuben and the Bullhorn Singers had scored a song together called “Midnight Sun,” that was used in the trailer for the Oscar-Nominated Martin Scorsese film, Killers Of The Flower Moon, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Lily Gladstone.
