Entrancing listeners with his hiccuping melodies and unique presence behind the mic, 21-year-old rapper Lil Gotit is just beginning to scratch the surface of his potential. Teaming up with London On Da Track for a full project, Gotit shares Superstar Creature. The latest protege of a producer known for working early with stars like Young Thug and Summer Walker, Lil Gotit delivers his most cohesive effort yet with Superstar Creature. The young rapper is a natural fit for London’s swinging trap production, his unconventional flows and infectious ad-libs weaving between acoustic guitars and sweeping pianos. The 11-track mixtape finds Gotit stretching his vocal muscles on highlights like the motormouthed, Latin-inflected “Argentina,” the wavy, falsetto-laden “Freak B*tches,” the bouncy lead single “Bet Up” (714k YouTube Views), and more. Featuring appearances from Polo G, Young Nudy, and Slimelife Shawty, Superstar Creature arrives on February 21st via Alamo Records/Interscope.
To accompany the mixtape, Gotit shares “Free Melly,” a video for a Superstar Creature highlgiht. Saying a prayer for incarcerated rap star YNW Melly, the new single is a sweeping and epic trap symphony, as London layers lilting guitars and sweeping pianos over booming 808s and rattling hi-hats. Featuring an appearance from Chicago rising star Polo G, “Free Melly” finds the two emcees celebrating their success, while noting how quickly the tides can turn: “Sh*t changed since I left the county, ain’t looked back since I got free,” sings Polo G. The video finds Gotit and Polo strutting their stuff on a neon-lit sound stage in the company of models, as the lights flash slime green.
Superstar Creature follows up a breakout year for Lil Gotit, marked by two full-length projects. Last March, the Alamo Records signee shared Crazy But It’s True, which boasted Gotit’s street hit “Da Real HoodBabies,” eventually blessed with a remix featuring Lil Baby. In September, Gotit shocked his fans by dropping The Real GOAT mixtape. Praised by The FADER and Passion of the Weiss, The Real GOAT found the 20-year-old rapper expanding his style and hanging out with his creative friends. The self-proclaimed “Hood Baby” also performed at two separate Rolling Loud festivals, and toured several dates opening for his older brother Lil Keed.
Last week, Lil Gotit connected with another ATL sound architect–Zaytoven–for the “Drip Jacker” video single, from the upcoming The A-Team mixtape. A collaborative mixtape featuring Gotit, Zaytoven, Lil Yachty, and Lil Keed, The A-Team hits the internet next week, further solidifying Gotit’s spot among Atlanta’s trap elite.
