Luca George shares new single ‘Grow Down’
Singer-songwriter Luca George unveils the brand-new upbeat cinematic pop single ‘Grow Down’, out now.
Having recently performed at The Great Escape in the UK, the New Zealand-born, London-based artist gives us another glimpse of new music for the year with ‘Grow Down’, following the recent single ‘Not Born For Love’.
‘Grow Down’ was co-written in London with singer-songwriter Gabrielle Aplin, and songwriter and producer Joseph Wander (Lewis Capaldi, Only The Poets, Declan J Donovan) who also co-produced the single with highly acclaimed record producer Mike Spencer (Ellie Goulding, Zara Larsson, Kylie Minogue, John Newman). The single is fuelled by the enchanting wonder of youth and the yearning to preserve its carefree spirit. “Grow Down is really just me wishing I could hold onto that freedom, imagination, and innocence for a little longer,” Luca says.

Speaking further about the track, Luca shares, “Grow Down is a song about wishing I could stay young forever. It plays with the idea of growing down instead of growing up, holding onto the innocence and magic that seems to disappear as you get older. I wrote it using some of my favourite childhood memories, lying on the trampoline pretending I could fly, staring up at the stars and making shapes out of the clouds and animals in the sky, collecting rocks at the beach, catching fireflies, making wishes on shooting stars, and dancing like nobody’s watching. The song moves through the moment where that childlike wonder slowly starts to fade. When someone tells you your wishes will never come true, when you suddenly become aware that people are watching you dance, when the rocks you used to treasure become ice cubes melting in your glass, and when the shoes you wear are too expensive to jump in puddles anymore.”
‘Grow Down’ is accompanied by a beautifully shot cinematic lyric video filmed in London at Hilly Fields, capturing the magical essence of youth. Luca sits beside his older self on a park bench overlooking a vast landscape, as they reflect on a life lived. Starring David Taylor and Luca George, and directed by award-winning filmmaker, music video director, and editor from Aotearoa (New Zealand) Oscar Keys (Kirin J. Callinan, BROODS). Made with the support of NZ On Air.
Luca George continues to build momentum amassing over 6.9 million+ global artist streams, and a growing social audience with 82k+ combined. The 2025 EP ‘Say hi to Paula’, featuring standout singles ‘Flowers For You’, ‘Better Apart’, ‘Crying In The Bathroom’, and ‘brOken’ has received praise from fellow musicians and industry tastemakers like BBC Radio 1, The Hot Hits, The Edge, Rolling Stone, and playlist support on Spotify and Apple Music, praising Luca’s sugary soulful vocals and melancholic yet hopeful pop aesthetics, with raw, cinematic storytelling. With support slots on Peach PRC’s first UK tour in 2025, as well as performances alongside Callum Scott and Harper Finn; recognition on Rolling Stone AU/NZ’s Future of Music 2025 and 2026 lists; a hand-picked placement by Troye Sivan for APRA SongHubs; and a debut EP, You’ll Never Know Me Sober, amassing millions of streams, with the single ‘Suit Of Blue’ receiving a nomination at the APRA 2024 Silver Scroll Awards (NZ), Luca George is quickly emerging as one of alternative pop’s most exciting new voices.
