LUCY BEDROQUE RELEASES NEW PROJECT UNMUSIQUE – VIA DEADAIR
Ahead of his first performance tonight on Jane Remover‘s Turn Up Or Die Tour alongside Dazegxd, 19-year-old rapper and producer Lucy Bedroque (FKA lostrushi) has just shared his new project Unmusique –– out now via deadAir. The 17-track project boasts production credits from skai (Ken Carson, Osamason) and cranes (xaviersobased, Nettspend) and stamps their first full-length release under their new moniker, serving as the long-awaited follow-up to their 2023 debut album SISTERHOOD, which was praised by both No Bells and Pitchfork. Bedroque’s new material expands on the sound showcased on that record, blending mosh pit-ready rage with the eclecticism and sensitivities of artists like Stereolab, Radiohead, and Deftones. Unmusique has been heavily anticipated by his devout cult fanbase, who know that it’s the sister record of Bedroque’s forthcoming project Musique, slated for release this fall.
“This project encapsulates everything that’s occurring in music right now, especially within the overall ‘underground’ scene,” Bedroque shares. “There’s this huge movement happening right now within music, and there’s going to be a big change, not only in the way people create, but also in the way they consume. ‘Unmusique’ is me giving my take on that sonically.”
Known for his avant-garde blend of hip-hop, electronic music, and rock, Bedroque has also developed a penchant for customized linguistics and contorting the English language. Most notably, the title “Glutmother,” the name fans chose for a hyper-active subreddit, graces the cover art of their debut as well as the packaging for Unmusique. “The role of motherhood here is representative of a superiority to everything around it. But beyond humans, it’s a reference to mother nature and creation,” they explain. “People want more than anyone can handle, and I’ve responded to it with a perfectionist’s mindset.”
