Melanie Martinez Brought Her Portals Tour To The a Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory in Irving Texas

On June 15th 2023 Melanie Martinez brought the renowned Portals tour to The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory in Irving Texas. The day was hot and very humid but that did not stop the sold out show from wearing some of the most interesting and beautiful outfits to show their love and passion for Melanie Martinez.

The opening band, Tanukichan, (born Hannah Von Loon) is an American singer-songwriter based in San Francisco. Tanukichan did a great job getting the crowd going on this hot and humid day. The short but sweet set got the crowd hyped. There were a few times the crowd cheered exceptionally loud and you could see Hannah blush a little from the massive ovation.

Up next was who EVERYONE had been waiting for.  As the light shut off and the house music stopped the crowd, as loud as absolutely possible, screamed their hearts out. That might have been one of the loudest ovations for an artist I have ever heard. I heard through the grapevine she was playing the new Portals album only. From beginning to end, and some people were a bit bummed to not hear a few older songs. It seemed for most people though, they didn’t care at all and were more than excited to hear anything Melanie Martinez was ready to perform.

This Portal Era is so powerful. She gave such a strong performance even with the mask on. You can feel how proud she is of this album. The concert was so raw and angry at times. Her heart and soul letting out her anger and frustrations to her trauma and toxicity. She dedicated “Moon Cycle” to all the women on their period at the time. I cant lie, I laughed a little on that one cause it caught me off guard. During her 12th song, “Evil ” It was like a good detox expelling all the hate and gaslighting. The unexpected blast of butterfly confetti went off sent the fans in a fury of excitement.

The backup dancers really are not given enough credit. They had so much energy for each choreography and never seemed tired. Their storytelling was taunting and raw. You need to be an amazing performer to not have to rely on props to tell your story and I feel like the backup dancers really succeeded. They deserve so much more praise.

Overall for any Melanie Martinez fan this was an absolute must see show! If you missed this one be sure to catch any show she does.
