Mickey Darling learned a lot about Atlanta culture on a Friday night at the Terminal West.

Before all of that though, local Atlanta band Yin kicked off the show. Comprising the talents of Jordan Mitchell, Alex Thompson, and Connor Rosemond, this local band delivered a captivating performance. Their songs, self-described introspection on life and growth, created an immediate connection with the audience. One standout moment of the night was when Yin performed their hit song “Cool Online.” The infectious energy of the track had the entire audience moving and singing along. Yin also treated the audience to an unreleased track titled “The Feeling of Loving Someone.” Atlanta can expect great things from this talented trio in the future.

The next act was Chicago indie pop artist, Nick Wagen, supported by guitarist and singer Ben “benten” Ironside. Wagen started his career in high school making beats and is now in college for music recording. He performed in a way that implied a little shyness for being on stage, but that lent authenticity to the messages and themes of his songs. Wagen supported Ironside in performing one of his songs, and the audience enjoyed it so much, they chanted for an encore for Ironside. Wagen performed songs like “my bad”, “moon shooter”, and his most popular hit, “Confusion”. The crowd was definitely enjoying themselves when Wagen treated them to a “Sweater Weather” cover as well.

Finally, Skyler Molina (vocals) and Austin Medrano (instrumentals) took the stage. What set Mickey Darling apart was not just their musical talent but the genuine bond they shared with their fans. Throughout the performance, Skyler and Austin took the time to connect on a personal level, shaking hands and even venturing into the crowd mid-song. Fans returned the favor, teaching the Austin based duo some Atlanta slang, like “A-T-L hoe” and barking (a rallying sound for the University of Georgia football team, the Bulldogs).

One lucky fan even handed them some homemade stickers. Adding an element of surprise to the set, Mickey Darling invited Nick Wagen and Benten back on stage for a collaborative performance of an unreleased duet, “Blah Blah Blah.” Both Molina and Medrano stayed long after the show ended, taking the time to address fans individually, sign autographs, listen to their troubles… Yeah, I think they’re gonna go far.
