MIDNIGHT GENERATION ENTERS A NEW ERA WITH A FUTURISTIC DISCO SINGLE “RUNAWAYS”
Midnight Generation (@midnightgeneration) returns with “Runaways“, a sleek new single in English previewing their new musical chapter that leans into the Mexican band’s knack for disco futurism. Built around a rubbery bass loop and shimmering synths, the track threads together the glossy pulse of French touch house with the melodic instincts of contemporary indie-pop/sleaze.
And the accompanying music video doubles down on the band’s retro-futurist aesthetic, blurring nostalgia and escapism through a neon-soaked visual world that feels suspended somewhere between vintage disco culture and science-fiction fantasy.
“‘Runaways’ is the sound of waking up in a new city every day and not caring where you are,” Fernando Mares of Midnight Generation shares, “just knowing the music hits harder every night.” He continues, “”It’s a love letter to the road and everyone losing their mind on it alongside us.”
“Runaways” finds the Mexican/Chihuahua-bred group refining the sound that has steadily turned them into one of the most talked-about acts emerging from Latin America’s indie-dance underground scene. And it arrives after a breakout touring stretch for Midnight Generation.
Over the past year, the band played nearly 90 shows across 15 countries, bringing their meticulously crafted live show to more than 200,000 fans. Along the way, they made appearances at major international festivals including Lollapalooza (Chicago & Paris), Austin City Limits, Outside Lands, Governors Ball, Bonnaroo, BottleRock, Latitude, and Low Festival, while continuing to expand a devoted following well beyond their native Mexico. One of the defining moments of that run came with a sold-out performance at Mexico City‘s Pepsi Center, where the group transformed the arena into a sprawling disco-funk spectacle.
Midnight Generation are currently on an international run WORLD TOUR 2026, spanning North America, Europe, Mexico, and South America. The tour includes upcoming festival appearances at Montreux Jazz Festival, Mad Cool, Cruïlla, and Warm Up Festival, alongside headline dates across Europe and Latin America.
Additional performances alongside Empire of the Sun, Purple Disco Machine, and Jamiroquai place the band in increasingly fitting company. What began as a cult project in Chihuahua has evolved into one of the more globally resonant stories in contemporary indie dance music.
Formed by Fernando Mares, Luis Carlos “Bica” Valderrama, Carlos Amaya, Samuel Márquez, and Diego Bustillos, Midnight Generation continue to blur the boundaries between funk, disco, synth-pop, and electronic music, building a sound that feels equally indebted to Daft Punk’s chrome-plated maximalism and the warmth of classic dance records.
As Midnight Generation enters its next phase, “Runaways” serves as both a mission statement and a preview of a band whose ambitions have grown well beyond the dancefloor.
