MORGAN EVANS RELEASES TITLE TRACK FOR UPCOMING SOPHOMORE ALBUM STEEL TOWN
Solrise Records / Virgin Music Group’s Australian-born, Nashville-based country mainstay Morgan Evans dropped the title track of his upcoming sophomore album Steel Town.
Written by Evans with Ava Suppelsa and Sam Ellis, “Steel Town” is an ode to Morgan’s hometown of Newcastle on Australia’s east coast. The autobiographical jaunt and album opener includes an interlude of a vintage commercial advertising what Newcastle has to offer, interspersed amid Evans’ lyrics about his upbringing.
I wrecked my first car on Burton Rd
First time I saw life flash before my eyes
On my 18th birthday I fell in the lake
Closest I ever got to being baptized
Drinkin’ VB in the back seat
Of Ben’s yellow Toyota
Some nights I close my eyes and go there
That old light house shining down
Sound of a rowdy home game crowd
The gravel road to my childhood house, in the
The heart of a steel town
They’re out racing V8’s in the streets, and
Counting coal ships from the beach
Part of me will always be,
The heart of a steel town
“Growing up round Newy, as a kid, and a musician, it was a beautiful place, but also a tough place, that built a character and resilience that I’ve taken with me around the world,” Evans shares. “Now, having been in Nashville for 10 years, I have an even greater love and respect for the place that raised me, but also welcomed me home when I needed it the most. On this album, and particularly the title track, I’ve finally found that balance of pride and earnest that I can share and sing with complete authenticity.”
The title track joins latest release “Two Broken Hearts” feat. Laci Kaye Booth, “a raw, emotional ballad about healing, hope, and the slow journey back to love” (Country Now), and “Beer Back Home,” Evans’ first single of this new era.
Steel Town, out March 20, was written over a period of reflection spent in Newcastle, where Evans re-centered, tapping into a deep vein of creativity and reigniting his passion for songcraft. Evans returns to his hometown this Valentine’s Day for his first performance of the year at Howlin Country 2026, and just announced his headline Steel Town Tour throughout Australia and New Zealand this summer with Laci Kaye Booth opening.
