MORMOR DETAILS DEBUT ALBUM SHARES SINGLE/VIDEO “CHASING GHOSTS”
ANNOUNCES HEADLINE NORTH AMERICAN TOUR
SEMBLANCE DUE NOVEMBER 4TH
After releasing a pair of singles earlier this year, Toronto’s MorMor officially announces his forthcoming debut album Semblance arriving on November 4th. Along with the album’s announcement, MorMor shares the single “Chasing Ghosts”, which arrives with animated visuals created by Otto Tang. The video speaks directly to the ways in which we fall into certain habits that grant only fleeting happiness. It’s an ode to the avoidance of dealing with one’s self; sitting with one’s self is often uncomfortable and can be painful.
Elaborating on selecting animation for the “Chasing Ghosts” video, MorMor shares:
“I felt that this character was from a similar world to the one that we had built for “Don’t Cry”; therefore I decided to use this medium to tell the story. There’s a certain limitlessness when it comes to animation that I deeply appreciate. It is possible to create worlds that are not confined to the same kind of logic that exists outside of this medium.”
To celebrate the release of Semblance, MorMor will set out on a North American headline tour beginning January 2023. The 10-date run kicks off in Washington, D.C. on January 20th with stops in Brooklyn, a hometown show in Toronto, Chicago, Vancouver and Seattle before wrapping up in Los Angles on February 4th. Tickets on sale now.
Semblance is an ambitious deepening of his style. Recorded largely during the lonely lockdown days of the pandemic, Semblance is by turns contemplative, jittery, wistful, gentle, and generous. His distinctive voice—a svelte tenor that sits comfortably higher in pitch—leaps out of the speakers, alighting over the sturdy bass lines, guitar riffs, and drums, the latter of which he learned to play over the course of making the album. The album pursues difficult truths about love and growth and relationships, uncovering feelings that MorMor couldn’t have revealed in any other way. And yet the album lingers on the outskirts of comprehension; it’s not like reading a diary, but is more like stumbling on codes and fragments to wonder over. The debut will include the previously released singles “Seasons Change” and “Far Apart,” both self-written and produced by MorMor and the latter of which arrived alongside a Camille Summers Valli-directed video.
