Myles Kennedy – “The Art of Letting Go Tour” – Variety Playhouse, Atlanta

On an unseasonably warm Monday night, Myles Kennedy brought his three-piece band to the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta. Several attendees I spoke with arrived hours before the show for a spot in front of the stage had already seen the Alter Bridge lead singer and rhythm guitarist, several times on this solo tour.
Opening the night was Sons of Silver a five-piece band out of LA, comprised of vocalist and guitarist Peter Argyropoulos, guitarist Kevin Haaland (Skillet), bassist Adam Kury (Candlebox), keyboardist Brina Kabler and drummer Marc Slutsky (Splender, Peter Murphy, Tonic). They kicked the night off with a short, but high energy six song set comprised mostly of songs from their recently released album “Runaway Emotions”.
Tim Montana took things up a level, opening with “Get You Some”, and keeping his foot on the gas with five consecutive songs from his latest album “Savage”. His rap on Tupac’s “California”, was an unexpected highlight of his set. Having played with and opening for Billy Gibbons and ZZ Top, Kid Rock, Slash and his idol, Jerry Cantrell, their influences can be heard. He wrapped up his set with the ballad “Mostly Stoned” and “Devil You Know”. I’m sure he gained some new fans from his set.
Myles Kennedy then took the stage to an enthusiastic crowd who hung on to every note and sang right along with him. His iconic voice and incredible guitar playing centered this three-piece band, as he bounced effortlessly from rhythm to lead guitar. The fifteen-song set, included six from the recently released album “The Art of Letting Go”. My favorite of the new songs was “Behind the Veil” which included an amazing extended guitar solo. Another highlight of the set was the fan requested Alter Bridge song “Lover” played acoustic. Infused between songs from the new album were a balance of songs from his first two albums “Year of the Tiger and “Ides of March”. It was a fantastic set that wrapped up a great night of music by three outstanding bands!
