Just in time for Halloween, buzzing 21-year-old soulful pop singer CIL returns with a vampirically irresistible new single entitled “Bloodsucker”, out now on Warner Records.
The track hinges on a jazz-y swing topped off with dark cinematic overtures and a twist of pop panache. A woozy tambourine beat sets the tempo as swooning strings underline her arresting croon. With incredulity towards a shady suitor, she admonishes, “You’re calling me the girl of your dreams, oh really? Honestly, I think you’re just a tease.” Soon, she acknowledges the truth out loud on the hauntingly hypnotic hook, “God, you’re just a bloodsucker, you’re draining all the hope out of me.”
About the track, she commented, “I wrote ‘Bloodsucker’ because I was at the point where I was ready to let go of what no longer served me, from toxic friends, relationships, and love to my own personal toxic habits and cycles… I used to say I was better off on my own, but I no longer find shame in saying that I want real genuine love in my life. I’m done settling. I hope ‘Bloodsucker’ makes you feel like the confident bad bitch that you are. I hope you take it as a new beginning, releasing the toxic cycles and making room for the next beautiful era in your journey. We all deserve good love.”
It picks up where she left off on her 2023 debut Tears Dry On Their Own EP. Beyond gathering over 50 million streams and counting, it earned critical acclaim from Billboard, Music Connection, and more. V Magazine raved, “With six gorgeous tracks showcasing her vocal prowess as well as her storytelling abilities, CIL is finding her sound and taking the music industry by storm,” going on to profess, “CIL is on the cusp of pop stardom.”
It’s no wonder Stevie Nicks handpicked her to open a series of dates this year. Most recently she played to a sold-out crowd at New York’s Madison Square Garden, and will finish out a breakthrough 2023 with two final stops on December 12in Sacramento and Dec 15 in San Francisco, CA.
