NNAMDÏ, the multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and one of Chicago’s most beloved indie musicians has released Please Have A Seat, his Secretly Canadian debut, a joint release with his own Sooper Records. The album is accompanied by a video for “Touchdown” directed by Sandy Honig (Three Busy Debras, Eric Andre Show, Ren & Stimpy reboot) starring SNL cast member Sarah Squirm and a slew of Chicago and LA comedians including Mitra Jouhari & Alyssa Stonoha (Three Busy Debras), Nate Varrone, the Shrimp Boys and others. NNAMDÏ notes:

“I was very excited by the idea of working with Sandy on this because I love Three Busy Debras. Seeing everything get brought to life by her vision was a pleasure to witness and I’m pumped to get to be her first music video. I had performed at Sarah Sherman’s Helltrap Nightmare comedy showcase a few times in Chicago so having her involved in one of my projects was a blessing. It’s kind of surreal that most of the people Sandy brought in the video are comedians I’ve seen perform and am a fan of, and also the new people I was introduced to on set were all so incredible. Everything felt special and the ideas I brought were truly expanded on in a really fun, silly and beautiful way thanks to Sandy and the whole cast and crew. Truly immaculate vibes!”

Honig Adds:

“This is my first time directing a music video and I’m very excited for everyone to see “Touchdown”. Collaborating with Nnamdi was incredible, he gave me free rein to bring his vision to life, and the cast is full of the best comedians who have been working together in different contexts for years: SNL’s Sarah Sherman and her frequent collaborators from their Chicago days, my Three Busy Debras sisters Mitra & Alyssa, and brilliant local actors we found on Craigslist. Everyone brought their unique sensibilities to this and I got to experiment visually in a way I haven’t on other projects. The video was shot very run-and-gun in one day and we got to find the beauty in the moment. I hope the silliness and fun we had making this comes through when watching it!”

If you’re in Chicago today, stop by NNAMDÏ’S Pancake Haus Album Release Party at House of Vans. The concept comes from the name of the DIY music venue he and his brother ran from their parent’s house in the 2010s in which they held live performances and served up pancakes. For the return of “NNAMDÏ’s Pancake Haus” , Chicago trio Paper Mice will perform a live set, Ryan, the Person will DJ and Chicago staples Babycakes and Dark Matter Coffee will also be in attendance- Babycakes supplying pancakes and Dark Matter Coffee unveiling their new limited edition NNAMDÏ’ packaged Coffee Cold entitled “Please Have a Sip,” made especially for the album launch. The result of a much-needed pause, which lead to a creative and emotional reset, Please Have A Seat is NNAMDÏ’s most immediate and accessible effort to date. It stretches the limits of his pop songwriting and serves as a request to sit down, be present, and take in a moment. Each of the album’s 14 songs, which NNAMDÏ wrote, produced, and performed entirely himself, are relentlessly replayable, careening into unexpected and disorienting places. Shoved up against these potent doses of pop bliss are math-rock freakouts, arena-rock lead guitars, breakneck-paced rap flows, and feverish synth arrangements. It’s a visionary statement and another leap from Chicago’s hardest-working musician. Tickets for his upcoming tour in support of the album are available now.
