SOME NIGHTS I DREAM OF DOORS DUE MAY 13th VIA SEPTEMBER RECORDINGS
On May 13th, Nigerian-born, London-based multidisciplinary artist Obongjayar will release his highly anticipated debut album Some Nights I Dream Of Doors via September Recordings. Across its twelve tracks, he skillfully navigates rich soundscapes and subcultures while touching on a wealth of personal and political topics. Today, he shares one more glimpse of the record ahead of its release next Friday, debuting new album track “I Wish It Was Me” as an intimate performance video directed by Hector Aponysus in the living room of his family home where he plays the song for his mother, brother and sister for the first time.
Prior to announcing his debut at the top of 2022, Obongjayar garnered attention throughout 2021 through a steady stream of releases — early album single “Message In A Hammer,” show-stopping collaborations with Little Simz on the track “Point and Kill” and Pa Salieu on “Style & Fashion,” as well as a full EP with influential Nigerian producer Sarz entitled Sweetness. In the years that have passed since he released his first single, his music still defies easy categorization. His musical palette is expansive, with a nod to the rich musical textures of his Nigerian roots, he adds a multitude of influences and on Some Nights I Dream Of Doors his sound is more potent than ever. Recorded over 12 months with producer Barney Lister (and J Rick on “All The Difference”), he’s created an album that transcends its influence, creating an innovative and fresh body of work that is ready to define 2022.
