American singer-sonwriter Omar Apolonio Velasco, professionally known as Omar Apollo is one of America’s biggest up and coming R&B artists of this decade. At only 25 years old, he managed to smash billboard top 100 and sign with Warner Records label. More recently, he performed an astounding performance at Toronto’s very own History, in Downtown Toronto on November 29th, 2022.

Starting off strong with an opener that needs no introduction, Ravyn Lanae a talented R&B artist out of Chicago, warmed up the crowd with her most famous songs “Skin Tight” featuring Steve Lacy, “Free Room” featuring Applyby and Computer Luv featuring Steve Lacy. These hits racked up millions of streams on Spotify so I wasn’t surprised when the crowd sang the songs word for word.

As the night progressed, Omar Apollo came on with one of the most beautiful, majestic and unique outfits I have ever seen. The bedazzling outfit mixed with the angelic vocals created an atmosphere of brilliance and nostalgia. Releasing Ivory, an R&B album on April 8th of this year was debatably the accelerator of his career as he was able to collaborate with world renown artists like Daniel Caesar and Kali Uchis.

Throughout the concert, he played all of these songs and without fail, the audience was able to scream each song word for word. His fame quickly ramped up this year from the second that “Evergreen”, a song on the album, went viral on Tiktok. Reaching over 100 million streams on spotify, when he sang this song, it was truly a magical moment of peace and serenity. The stage presence, the agile lights and the crowd made the Omar Apollo experience one to remember. In my opinion, one of my favourite parts of the concert which truly shows how amazing Omar really is was when he frequently checked up on the crowd to make sure that everyone is doing well.
