ORLA GARTLAND RELEASES ‘EVERYBODY NEEDS A HERO (EXTENDED EDITION)’

Multi-hyphenate independent artist Orla Gartland shares the extended edition of her acclaimed 2024 album, Everybody Needs A Hero, available everywhere now. Gartland expands on her album Everybody Needs a Hero with an extended edition that delves deeper into themes of self-discovery and resilience, following her 2025 Libera Awards nomination for Self-Released Record of the Year and an Ivor Novello nomination for Best Song Musically and Lyrically for track “Mine”, affirming her place as a lyrically sharp voice in modern music
Continuing down the road of introspection and soul-searching, the new tracks are a satisfying conclusion to the journey. From the catharsis of “One Eye Open,” and “Thirty’s” introspection, Gartland is a pro at articulating the inexplicable emotions we all feel as we navigate our lives. Recently-released single “Now What?” gave listeners an early taste of what was in store with its no-holds-barred lyrics about finding yourself after a relationship ends. Meanwhile, focus track “Pest,” featuring Tommy Lefroy, is a witty critique of a particular kind of man. The album closes with a stunning live acoustic version of “Mine” recorded live at Middle Farm, featuring vocals from longtime collaborators and FIZZ members Dodie and Greta Isaac.
“I’ve added five new tracks to this extended edition of Everybody Needs A Hero; a mix of new songs & offcuts from the initial album recording process. It’s easy to resent the length of time between writing a song and releasing it as sometimes life (and everything you’re singing about) has changed by the time the music comes out!” shares Orla. “This was true for me in this case so it felt good to revisit the record and distill some more recent thoughts & feelings into songs like ‘Now What?’ and ‘Thirty’. There are some features too; I loved bringing Tommy Lefroy in on ‘Pest’ and singing a new live version of ‘Mine’ with my best friends, Greta Isaac & dodie.”
Original album singles “Little Chaos,” “The Hit,” and “Late to the Party (feat. Declan McKenna)” proved to listeners that Everybody Needs A Hero is truly the loudest Gartland has been, sonically and lyrically, as she steps into newfound independence. These songs, along with the rest of the album, mix brutal honesty with tongue-in-cheek humor that sometimes acts as a defense mechanism for when things start to get a little too real. Earning praise from Billboard, the New York Times, NPR, and more, Everybody Needs a Hero put a voice to those hard-to-describe feelings that come along with a breakup through a meticulously crafted sonic lens.
