PYREX ARRIVES WITH CONFIDENT NEW SINGLE “WAT IM ON”
Baltimore-bred Hip Hop pillar Pyrex delivers his new single and music video, “Wat im On”, a melodic anthem celebrating his ascent as an artist, producer and budding star in his own right, and the spoils that come with it. The longtime member of Southside’s 808 Mafia collective affirms this leg of his trajectory confidently on “Wat im On”, a taste of music on the horizon and a tease of his new project Sincerely, Rex, due later this year.
Pyrex, known for his ability to craft unsparing Southern and trap anthems, flaunts his ability to integrate melody on “Wat im On,” which sports a mesmerizing chorus and perfectly in-pocket verses as he details the matching frequencies he finds in his love interests. All the while, whether it’s two-stepping in a photo studio or floating on the hood of a car during a night out, the rapper-songwriter-producer welcomes the viewer into his element as he puts them in a trance with his latest record.
Pyrex’s momentum began in the mid 2010s when his friend Metro Boomin’ introduced the producer to Southside, head of the 808 Mafia production group, that’s been in-demand for most of the last 15 years, thanks to work with Future, Young Thug, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Travis Scott and more. During his formative years, Pyrex reshaped the sound of current Southern trap to the point that it began dictating the direction of pop music. Through this experience, crafting records from diverse perspectives and incorporating varying sonic approaches became routine for Pyrex, and that much is evidenced by his new music.
2020’s Blood On The Hills, his first EP as a vocalist, included the popular title track, “Blood On The Hills,” a downtrodden record about ‘conversations with the reaper,’ co-produced with Southside, that gave his audience a taste of the range he could offer as a vocalist. Since then, Pyrex has introduced changes of pace, theme and tone across several projects and singles that exhibit his coming-of-age.
“Wat im On” is the next feather in that hat, with the upcoming Sincerely, Rex setting into motion the next chapter of the musician’s already well-established career.
