Loyalty is a prevalent theme in Boston Richey’s music, and it rears itself again on “Played First,” The Mac-Fly produced cut rumbles along with a simplistic melody as its backdrop, the minimally-invasive type of atmosphere that allows Richey’s drawls to take centerstage. Despite the intense emotions being conveyed, Richey dons his trademark smugness with ease.
The Freebandz Gang rep is teasing a return to the limelight following a brief time out of it – his last official new project, his sophomore album Richey Rich, was released in 2024 and capped off a two-album banner year. “Help Me,” the vulnerable stream of consciousness that earned Richey the first solo Billboard chart hit of his career, earned its RIAA® Platinum certification that year, and star-studded collaborations with Glorilla and Lil Yachty helped elevate Richey’s profile worldwide.
This year, the 2023 XXL Freshman’s crescendo continued with a victory at the 2026 iHeartRadio Music Awards for “Best New Artist,” and an acclaimed appearance on ‘From The Block,’ where he debuted “Bubba Boyz Alumni.” As Richey’s return to the forefront nears, he’ll join the summer festival circuit, performing at Bigger Than Life Fest in Bonner Springs, Kansas on July 26 and Hennessy Summer Jam in the Bahamas beginning July 31.
