NEW REPRESSING OF HOLD THE GIRL AVAILABLE SEPTEMBER 15TH ON VINYL AND CD

Rina Sawayama commemorates the one year anniversary of her critically acclaimed album Hold The Girl by announcing the physical repressing of the album on vinyl and CD available September 15th. The new packaging features a blue cover photo and color vinyl disc. Rina shares about the celebratory moment, “Can’t believe it’s almost been a year since Hold The Girl became yours and what a year it’s been !! In honour of the one year anniversary, I wanted to reissue the album with fresh art, both on streaming services and in vinyl and CD formats. I’ve always loved this image and feel it encapsulates the album and all of its themes (more on that later).”

Alongside the repressing Rina is also sharing a new episode of Rina TV, in which she details the behind the scenes of what went into the redesigning of her show for the Hold The Girl: Reloaded tour. Rina is currently on the North American leg of the tour, which included her recent festival appearances at Governor’s Ball, Bonnaroo, and Lollapalooza. Still ahead are performances at Life is Beautiful Festival, Portola Music Festival, Austin City Limits and dates in Denver, Seattle, San Francisco and New Orleans. Rina redesigned her entire show for the tour and the new performance looks to articulate a greater narrative with a simpler set design, using set pieces in multiple ways and providing a masterfully playful and interactive experience.

Hold The Girl saw Rina juxtapose intimate storytelling with arena-sized songs for an ambitious and original album that successfully excited fans and critics alike. Reflecting on all that the year has brought her, the physical re-issue and her redesigned tour for Hold The Girl: Reloaded demonstrates Rina’s intent to provide a more intimate understanding of her creative process and unique point of view during the creation of the album.

The album was written and recorded over the span of a year and a half, Rina teamed up with long-term collaborators Clarence Clarity and Lauren Aquilina as well as enlisting help from the likes of the legendary Paul Epworth (Adele, Florence & the Machine), Stuart Price (Dua Lipa, The Killers, Madonna) and Marcus Andersson (Demi Lovato, Ashnikko) for their magic touch. The product of Rina and these collective minds coming together is an album that melds influences from across the pop spectrum and is a bold and honest statement of Rina’s personal evolution; coming to terms with her own past and the jubilation of turning to the future.

Earlier this year Rina made her film debut as the lead female role in John Wick: Chapter 4 alongside Keanu Reeves. The film broke box office records for the franchise hitting #1 at domestic box office. Rina appeared on Good Morning Americaand sat down for a couch conversation with Jimmy Fallon around the films release. The Wrap praised Rina’s character Akira noting she, “gets some of the best choreography of the film, letting arrows fly as she launches herself from villain to villain in her Katniss Everdeen-meets-dominatrix best.” Mashable added, “Rina Sawayama exudes ruthless amounts of cool,” with The Hollywood Reporter noting that Rina, “will undoubtedly be seen in future editions.” Rina’s vocals are also featured in the end credits of the film on the track “Eye For An Eye.”
