RIO DA YUNG OG DROPS NEW EP RIO FREE

Rio da Yung OG, the Flint, Michigan rapper recently released after serving three years and eight months in prison, has dropped his first project since gaining his freedom. Titled RIO FREE, the ten-track project lands just ahead of a sold-out Welcome Back show at Detroit’s Masonic Temple on January 12. RIO FREE includes the viral hit “RIO FREE” and fan-favorite “WYDT,” both of which have trended across multiple platforms, with “RIO FREE” racking up over 35 million streams in under a month.

He’s kicking off his 2025 takeover which also includes a massive 41-date Rio Da Yung OG Welcome Home U.S. tour taking him through San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, NYC and more cities before concluding in Flint on April 5. More info on that HERE.

Since his release, Rio has garnered support from major artists like Lil Yachty and Veeze and made a stop at Million Dollaz Worth of Game for his first post-prison interview.

Despite being behind bars since 2021, Rio remained one of Michigan rap’s most consistent and beloved voices. He released multiple projects during his incarceration, including Fiend Lives Matter, The F Tape, and Rio Circa 2020. His steady stream of singles kept his name alive, with tracks like “Legendary” achieving gold certification—a testament to his unwavering influence.

News of Rio’s release ignited widespread excitement, with fans flooding social media to celebrate his return. TikTok alone has seen millions of views from fans rapping to his songs, demonstrating how his music resonated even while he was locked up.
