RISING ALTERNATIVE STAR JESSIE MURPH RELEASES DEEPLY PERSONAL NEW SINGLE “WHEN I’M NOT AROUND”

Today, 16-year-old rising alternative artist Jessie Murph has released her earnest new single “When I’m Not Around” via Columbia Records. Jessie digs deep on the emotional track and draws inspiration from her experience being bullied while growing up in a small conservative Alabama town. Listen HERE.

The song is released alongside a Patrick Tohill-directed official video that places her back in the halls of high school where she was faced with hostility and misogyny while trying to take hold of her musical potential. Jessie turned the negativity into motivation to pursue music and remain true to her authentic self. Watch the deeply personal video HERE.

In speaking about the song and accompanying visual, Jessie says: “‘When I’m Not Around’ is a song I wrote during a really shitty time in my life. My relationship with this boy had just ended, and I was losing touch with a lot of people I had grown up with for so many years. It was a lonely and isolating time in my life, and I felt like I just didn’t fit in with the people I thought were my friends. If people say one thing to your face and then say different shit about you when you’re not around, were they ever really your friends at all? Writing this song helped me deal with that shit tremendously and that’s why this song and music video are both really f*ckin’ special to me. I hope people listen to this song and feel empowered to be themselves and cut ties with fake ass bitches. Above all though I hope when people listen to this song, they know they’re not alone.”

“When I’m Not Around” builds on Jessie’s raw and honest songwriting and follows “Look Who’s Crying Now,” which cracked the Top 12 on the iTunes Alternative Songs Charts, and Jessie’s debut single “Upgrade,” which was released earlier this year and has accumulated over 6.5M global streams to date. Jessie will perform these tracks live at Breakaway Music Festival and Austin City Limits this fall with more shows to be announced soon.
