RISING ARTIST MEHRO’S NEW SINGLE “KETAMINE” PREMIERES ON PAPER MAGAZINE
“Ketamine”, the raw new single from rising artist mehro, premieres today on PAPER Magazine who proclaim, “mehro’s moody melodies linger… [Their] music is confessional and tender, songs that tap into love, despair and everything in between.” The track features playful whistling and swinging guitar strums, a harsh contrast against mehro’s attempt to find peace in a gloomy situation. Listen to/share the song HERE and watch/share the accompanying self-directed music video HERE, which follows mehro witnessing a couple’s tumultuous relationship.
“The ‘ketamine’ music video was made to deliver the unexpected. To showcase the many ways the song can make you feel and to illustrate the many ways the song can be interpreted,” recalls mehro. “I did not know how this video would turn out but in the editing room the footage revealed the story that needed to be told. The video is deeply personal to me and I cannot wait to see how people receive it. I am endlessly grateful to my collaborator and director Jennifer Morrison, producer Kristen Brancaccio, director of photography Ryan Calavano and the rest of our incredible crew.”
Later this month, mehro is slated to take their lauded live show back on the road with an extensive run of headlining U.S. dates. Kicking off on February 21, the run of shows will include stops at Los Angeles’ The Roxy, Brooklyn’s Baby’s All Right, Nashville’s The End, DC’s Songbyrd Music House, Philadelphia’s MilkBoy and many more. Following the U.S. tour, mehro will make their debut appearance at Pal Norte Festival in Monterrey, Mexico. Full tour routing can be found below.
In October, mehro premiered their dreamy song “dopamine”. The track flows effortlessly from one cascading melody into the next, giving way to mehro’s desperate plea to rediscover the joy they once felt. “I wanted to make a song from the depths of despair, just on the other side of the invisible line,” explains mehro. “So hurt that the only way to survive is to step outside of any perspective. The sound singed and scorched any remnants of my artistic past; ‘dopamine’ is what emerges from the ashes.”
Additionally, mehro released their latest album Dark Corners and Alchemy in March 2023 to critical praise. On Dark Corners and Alchemy, mehro revels in the duality of the human experience, unabashedly confronting their insecurities and despair while equally embracing their hope and healing. As much as it is a shared confessional, the staggeringly vulnerable 12-song album is a reminder that so many facets of life can be complicated, from relationships to traumas, passions and beyond.
Enveloped in music from childhood, mehro initially resisted a career as a musician. That changed when the then-teenager watched the Johnny Cash biopic Walk The Line. Inspired, they picked up a guitar that night and began learning “Folsom Prison Blues,” eventually beginning to write their own music. Since arriving with their debut single “perfume” in 2020, the singer-songwriter immediately caused ripples. The stripped-back love song has since garnered more than 67 millionstreams on Spotify alone and heralded mehro as one of 2023’s breakout artists.
Spring of 2022 saw mehro perform on NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concert series and garnered praise from the likes of NPR’s All Songs Considered, FLOOD Magazine, The Line Of Best Fit, FLAUNT Magazine, Wonderland Magazine, Under The Radar, Ones To Watch and more.
