Rising artist LG Malique releases his triumphant Warner Records debut EP Living Gold that’s forged in resilience and gratitude. The 8-track set includes the new single “Lie,” a bouncy, pop-infused number, as well as his viral remake of Lukas Graham’s seminal “7 Years” — featuring the song’s originator — and “Stood My Ground,” a powerful retelling of his journey.
In addition to the project’s viral hits, highlights include the typically vulnerable “I Know” and “Acknowledgement,” an exploration of the steep price of following your dreams. Other gems include “Wallet,” “Baptize,” and the devastatingly intimate “Momma.” On “Lie,” Malique best demonstrates his ability to write deeply personal songs that resonate widely.
“Glad that I got a good head on my shoulders,” he raps over a soulful bassline and infectious percussion. “Nobody ever told me that the world would get colder.” The source of his introspection: “A person gonna take advantage of you, it never fails.” Malique’s message is clear: Be wary of who you trust.
Living Gold arrives on the heels of LG Malique’s reimagining of the 2015 mega-hit “7 Years” featuring Lukas Graham — the song’s original creator. The collaboration has already earned 2.7M global streams and over1M YouTube views for the emotional video. “[It] reflects my journey through struggles, from drugs at 13 to heartbreak and growing up in the hood,” Malique says.
In 2019, LG Malique first made waves on Soundcloud with “Sideline,” which paved the way for his independent debut EP 100 Days and singles like “Change” and “Selfish Ways.” After building a following and going viral, Malique released another pair of EPs — Long Story Short and Colorblind — and continued to hone his craft.
