Today, Biden for President held a Todos con Biden national call with Secretary Julián Castro. Biden for President leaders and Secretary Castro discussed what’s at stake for the Latino community amidst the Trump Administration’s relentless efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

“These times are very challenging and trying times for the Latino community,” said Secretary Julián Castro. “At the same time, if you grew up like I did, you know that our community is one that has always espoused the values that have made our country, the great country — that it is of family, of faith, of hard work, of entrepreneurship, of service, of country. And the question in front of us is how are we going to work hard to make sure that we elect a man who has the right vision so that every single person can prosper, including the Latino community in the years to come. And the stakes are so high out there. Whether we’re talking about issues related to immigration or health care, the difference between a President that is in court right now, trying to take away all of the protections that were afforded by the Affordable Care Act or Joe Biden that wants to build on that.”

“Obviously this is an important moment for our country,” said Jason Rodriguez, Biden for President Deputy Coalitions Director. “So many of our States and families are grieving given the circumstances and the Latino community, especially, right? We’re seeing spikes in COVID in places like Florida, Arizona, and Texas. And you know, this is impacting our communities in a very deep and raw way … We know that our community is not a monolith and it will take persuasion work to reach us and to turn us out. But we have an incredible story to tell. The Vice President has made a number of commitments from a policy perspective, but also through this campaign that are really going to profoundly impact the Latino community in a positive way.”

Asked about why he is supporting Joe Biden for President, Secretary Castro answered: “I’m voting for Joe Biden because I want somebody who’s going to make sure that the kind of opportunity that I’ve had in life — to get a good education to reach my dreams — is the opportunity that every single person in this country, no matter the color of your skin or how you pronounce your name or how long you and your family have been in this country, that you’re going to get that same opportunity in your education, job opportunities, small business opportunities, your health care, your housing, and that’s what Joe Biden is going to do. He has the most progressive platform of any Democratic presidential candidate nominee in years.”
