Shadow Child Releases New Single and Video “Inside Out”

Shadow Child, New Music, Music, Singer, Songwriter, Joe Church, London Records

Renowned UK DJ and producer Shadow Child unveils his latest single Inside Out, a hypnotic deep house cut layered with the soulful allure of a Joe Church sample. Out now on the iconic London Records, “Inside Out” builds on the momentum of Shadow Child’s recent club-driven release “Say It Now,” reinforcing his status as one of electronic music’s most innovative and forward-thinking producers.

Speaking about today’s release, Shadow Child shares As people fall in love with the House they call ‘Deep’ once again, it felt only right for me to revisit that special 2012/13 era when I first cut my teeth using the Shadow Child name. I’ve been playing a lot of throwback Deep House DJ sets for the last 2 years too, noticing a very clear resurgence from a wide spectrum of fans, so when Duke Dumont also called me recently to say I’d be crazy not to do something like this again, ‘Inside Out’ was born. I also have to credit my A&R Ross Allen at London Records for suggesting the incredible Joe Church vocal sample – we go back to go forwards, always!”

With the release of “Say It Now” – which landed alongside the announcement of his signing to London Records – Shadow Child has garnered widespread support from leading tastemakers including BBC Radio 1’s Danny Howard, Charlie Tee, Pete Tong and Arielle FreeClash Magazine and Defected, as well as key figures across the global electronic scene such as Claptone, Sherelle, Yotto, Groove Armada, Vintage Culture, and Horse Meat Disco. The single has also received standout remixes from S.P.Y, Dusky, and Cinthie, each bringing their own distinctive touch to the track.

Coming to prominence in the early 2000s with his bass-driven electro house music as Dave SpoonShadow Child has toured the world with residencies at Cream in Ibiza and with BBC Radio 1, as well as producing remixes for the likes of the Pet Shop Boys and Dizzee Rascal and working with Pete Tong. In 2012, he retired the Dave Spoon moniker and reestablished himself as Shadow Child, casting out anew to deliver a self-titled EP of thumping deep house that was on heavy rotation with the likes of tastemakers Eats Everything and Claude Von Stroke.

As Shadow Child, he has since carved out a distinct niche in bass-quaking records that reference the rave music of his ‘90s upbringing coupled with earworming vocal samples. His head-nodding track “23” was featured on Flying Lotus’ radio station on Grand Theft Auto V, while he has also set up his own record label Food Music and released euphoric dancefloor pop with Scissor Sisters’ Jake Shears and producer Doorly as Lovequest, all while continuing to fill dancefloors across the globe.

Speaking on the evolution of his sound – heard in today’s single and set to develop across future releases – Shadow Child reflects: “I came out of the pandemic questioning my place in the dance music world and where I wanted to go next. I was inspired by the lo-fi explosion of artists a few years back like Mall Grab and DJ Seinfeld and it made me go back to my roots, exploring the raw, stripped back sound of the jungle and rave tunes I grew up with.”

Now entering a new chapter with London Records, Shadow Child joins their frontline roster alongside emerging artists Alewya and Joalin, while the label continues to release new music from pioneering acts like Orbital and Goldie.

He’s also collaborating with renowned British graphic artist and video director Jimmy Turrell, known for his work with Beck, Kasabian, The Chemical Brothers, The Rolling Stones and the estates of Elvis and Aretha Franklin.
