SOFI TUKKER Release New Album ‘butter’

GRAMMY-nominated duo SOFI TUKKER have released their silky-smooth new album butter. butter symbolizes SOFI TUKKER’s deep love of Brazilian music and culture, and is a jazz-infused, alter-ego companion to their acclaimed 2024 album BREAD. The band will play a special “butter” set at the iconic Newport Jazz Festival on August 1^st.

Produced by Latin-GRAMMY winner Marcio Arantes and recorded in Brazil, butteris a labor of love, featuring SOFI TUKKER collaborating with special guests including Seu Jorge, Rael, Silva, Mari Merenda & Sophia Ardessore, MC Bola & DJ Gao, Channel Tres, Kah-Lo, The Knocks and Liniker.

 

“Intensity” follows the release of the album’s first single “Bread (butter version)” featuring Seu Jorge; watch the lyric video HERE. The reimagined tracks that originally appeared on BREAD are given an intimate and seductive new spin on butter.

The genre-defying duo of SOFI TUKKER is comprised of Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern. Together, they planted the seeds of butter over ten years ago. Sophie explains, “When Tuck and I started the band, he promised me that one day I would return to Brazil more meaningfully, and it happened with the making of this album. I’ve always wanted to explore more Brazilian genres, and we really got to do that on butter. Marcio Arantes orchestrated the whole thing. He brought in Julio ‘Fejuca‘ Caesar (guitar), Daniel Conceição(percussion), Lulinha Alencar (accordion) and Will Bone (horns). Witnessing the musicians record these songs was awe-inspiring. It was different from what we are used to while making dance music, which tends to be very stop-and-start and loop-based, whereas butteris made up of nearly all organic elements.”

Known for their inclusive and global perspective on electronic music, butter sees SOFI TUKKER delving into various Brazilian genres they love, including MPB, bossa nova and samba, along with Latin genres bolero and bachata, and reggae and samba-reggae. With its top-down, breezy atmosphere, butter is a striking contrast to their more dance/EDM fare.
